Yoshitaka Amano

Rare Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy/Manga Illustrator) Autograph Signing

Through Japanese importer Takasan, premium wine and sake maker Asahara Shuzo Brewery Co. is offering an incredibly rare opportunity to get a hand signed autograph from famed Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano. There is even a chance for a select few to have a meet and greet with the artist over video conference. Final Fantasy fans will immediately recognize Amano’s work. He has been a key part of the franchise since its beginning. Amano was the character designer, title logo designer, and graphic designer on Square’s 1987 debut entry to the Final Fantasy series on the Famicom (known as the NES in the United States). He has been integral to the look and feel of the video games series ever since, designing title logos for games as recent as the newly released Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. Amano is also known for his work on Speed Racer and Vampire Hunter D to name a few.

Yoshitaka Amano Autograph Packages

Takasan is offering several packages at various price points. Make sure to read the fine print before purchasing though, as some packages include a digital autograph rather than the hand signed autograph boards that come in the premium packages!

Bleed Them Dry Collectible Set

Bleed Them Dry Collectible Set

The Bleed Them Dry (BTD) collectible set costs $275. It includes the red and black BTD Sake (details below), as well as what Takasan describes as one “BTD Artwork w/digital autograph”. Presumably this would come as a digital download of Amano’s vampire artwork. This package also includes a pre-recorded video message from Amano.

The Bleed Them Dry (BTD) Bloodthirsty Vampire set costs $295. It includes the red and black BTD Sake, as well as three art prints with a digital autograph. This is where the packages start to get really interesting! The Eternal Vampire Amano VIP Set costs $389 and is limited to only 30 sets. There is a significant jump in price because of the introduction of a hand signed art board known as a Shikishi  in Japan. In addition to the Shikishi, the rest of the package remains the same as the BTD Bloodthirsty Vampire set. That means you’ll also get the red and black BTD Sake, as well as three art prints with a digital autograph and the video message from Amano.

The Ultimate Vampire Amano VIP Set costs $499 and will only be available to five lucky fans. In addition to the hand signed Shikishi , this set also comes with a rare one-on-one zoom video chat with Yoshitaka Amano! That’s an incredibly rare opportunity. Don’t worry about the language barrier either as a translator will be on hand to facilitate communication. Buyers will also get a limited edition Bleed Them Dry Graphic Novel with this set. The rest of the package remains the same as the BTD Bloodthirsty Vampire set. That means you’ll also get the red and black BTD Sake, as well as three art prints with a digital autograph and the video message from Amano.

Another Chance for an Autograph: Yoshitaka Amano’s VR Museum

If sake isn’t your thing, there’s another way to get Amano’s autograph. If you want something more video game related, consider contributing to a Kickstarter that aims to create the largest official exhibition of iconic Amano artwork, including Final Fantasy and Vampire Hunter D, transformed into 3D VR models. Unfortunately, if money was a big obstacle in with the previous offering, Amano’s Kickstarter won’t offer a reprieve.

There are many different packages that contributors can choose, but if it’s an autograph you’re after, you can expect to pay $600 or more for a package that includes a signed poster. For about $1,718 you can get a signed poster, art book, and framed print in addition to a bunch of Amano swag and unlimited access to the museum. Video game legends like Dragon Quest Composer Koichi Sugiyama and Nintendo President Satoru Iwata are passing at an alarming rate so when opportunities like this come up, you have to act fast!
