Production Update

Marvel Studios Brings “Blade” Back to the Big Screen

One of the newest editions to phase five of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU) is a reboot of the 1998 film Blade starring Wesley Snipes. Mahershala Ali will be taking on the role of the title character in this new incarnation.

Eric Brooks (Ali), known as Blade, is a half-human/half-vampire—a “Daywalker”. Blade has honed his abilities to hunt down the undead who have long terrorized mankind. A human-vampire hybrid since his tragic birth, Blade has spent his long life seeking to rid the world of vampires like the one that killed his mother. Over the years, he has mastered his own style of fighting monsters of all kinds.

The film is set to start production production in July, but won’t hit theaters until 2023 or even the following year. Filming will occur in Atlanta, GA and New Orleans, LA.

“Blade” Cast and Crew

Mahershala Ali will be returning to the Marvel fold following his previous work on Luke Cage as Cornell ‘Cottonmouth’ Stokes. He also lent his voice to Uncle Aaron in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). So far, additional cast announcements have included Delroy Lindo, known for Get Shorty (1995), and Aaron Pierre who fans might recognize for his role in the rival superhero franchise Krypton (2018–2019).

Writer Stacey Osei-Kuffour has been tapped to develop Blade’s script. Her previous writing credits include: Watchmen (2019), The Morning Show (2021), and PEN15 (2019). Of course MCU staples, Kevin Feige and Eric Carroll will be at the helm of the production as the movie’s producers.
