Comedy legend Jerry Seinfeld is teaming up with Netflix to bring “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story” to the streaming service. Seinfeld has relied on the service in the past to bring the eponymous TV show to millions of viewers as well as his stand up comedy special Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours To Kill. “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story” is a comedy inspired by a joke Jerry Seinfeld told on the stand up stage about the world-shaking invention of the Pop Tart. One variation of Seinfeld’s routine is as follows:
“The pop-tart, by the way, was a moment in time. When they invented it—and I think Tom Brokaw today is gonna be talking about the baby boom and I am of that era and when I was about eight and they invented the pop-tart, the back of my head blew right off! I remember that I was in the supermarket aisle with my mother and I’m like ‘hold it hold up hold everything. The hell is that?! Fruit filled frosted rectangles?! The food is in the shape of the box. what is this?!’ You open the box, and they’re not even in there. They’re in packets. Remember the packets. Lined with some kind of metallic alloy from NASA to protect them from gamma rays and Russian satellites might shoot at your brown sugar cinnamons, you have to protect them. You open the packet, how many were in the packet? Two. Why two? One’s not enough, three is too many. That’s why. It was perfect! Perfect vision of the future from Kellogg’s two in each packet, two slots in the toaster. So you’re eight years old and you’re like ‘I can do this!’ The toaster companies are in on it too!”
“Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story” Cast and Crew
The film is scheduled to start production in Los Angeles and Orange County on May 24th and will last until July 1st. Seinfeld will write and produce the film along with collaborator Spike Feresten. Feresten and Seinfeld have a long history of writing together, previously working on the hit 90’s sitcom bearing Seinfeld’s name. Bee Movie writer Barry Marder will also be working on the project while Seinfeld will further help out by sitting in the Director’s chair.
