Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldana’s Trans Musical Begins Production This Summer

Production is set to begin this summer on the highly-anticipated trans musical “Emilia Perez,” a story about a Mexican drug trafficker who undergoes a sex change operation to escape the criminal underworld. The film will be shot on location in Mexico City and Hidalgo, Mexico, and will feature a talented cast led by Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, and Zoe Saldana.

“Emilia Perez” is produced by Pascal Caucheteux, who is best known for his work on films such as “Rust and Bone” and “The Sisters Brothers.” The film is written by Jacques Audiard and Thomas Bidegain, the team behind the critically acclaimed “A Prophet” and “The Sisters Brothers,” and is directed by Audiard himself.

Emilia Perez’s Powerful Story

According to the synopsis, “Emilia Perez” tells the story of Manitas Delmonte, a Mexican drug trafficker who decides to undergo a sex change operation to become a woman and escape the world of drug trafficking. Delmonte hires a young lawyer to help him get the doctor to perform the operation and carry out all the legal procedures to create his new identity: Emilia Pérez. After several years of faking her death and living with her new identity, Emilia decides to reconnect with her ex-wife and children but assumes the identity of a distant cousin of Manitas Delmonte.

“We are thrilled to be bringing this powerful story to life on the big screen,” said producer Pascal Caucheteux. Jacques Audiard is a masterful storyteller, and we can’t wait for audiences to see the incredible performances from Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldana, and Karla Sofía Gascón.
