About Allison Williams

Allison Howell Williams, born April 13, 1988, is an American actress, comedian, and singer. She is best known for her role as “Marnie Michaels” on the HBO comedy-drama series, Girls. Williams was born and raised in New Canaan, Connecticut, and is the daughter of former NBC Nightly News anchor and managing editor, Brian Williams, and Jane Gillan Stoddard, a TV producer. She graduated from Yale University in 2010 with a degree in English.

Before her acting career, Williams was a member of the all-female a cappella group, The Whiffenpoofs, at Yale. She began her acting career in theater and appeared in several Off-Broadway productions such as “The Little Foxes” and “A Streetcar Named Desire”. In 2011, she made her television debut in the HBO series, Girls, created by Lena Dunham. She played the role of Marnie Michaels, a close friend of Dunham’s character, Hannah Horvath, for all six seasons of the show, earning critical acclaim for her performance. The show premiered in 2012, and ran for six seasons, ending in 2017.

In addition to her role in Girls, Williams has also appeared in films such as Get Out, directed by Jordan Peele, and she starred in the 2018 psychological horror film The Perfection. She also played a role in the short film IRL. Williams is also a trained singer, and has performed on Broadway in productions such as “Once Upon a Mattress” and “Peter Pan Live!”, as well as in various concerts.

Williams is also known for her philanthropic work, particularly with organizations supporting education and women’s rights.
