New Album ‘Melt Away: A Tribute to Brian Wilson’ Out 7/22

New Album Melt Away: A Tribute to Brian Wilson Out 7/22

Hey there! We’re so stoked to announce our new record, Melt Away: A Tribute to Brian Wilson, out July 22.
In the spring of 2020, we started a list of our favorite Brian songs — a very long list. We chose songs without any regard to their chart performance. The obscure ones hit us just as hard as the more popular songs — and all are ripe for re-imagining, re-interpreting, and re-inventing. Brian writes songs of beauty and loneliness and vulnerability better than anyone — and by sequencing them next to popular songs of confidence and love and fun, it creates a more complete picture of life on earth.
Can’t wait to share this body of work with you this summer!

Maisie Williams, Freddie Highmore Star in True Crime Film Sinner v. Saints

Maisie Williams and Freddie Highmore are set to star in a new true crime film being produced by Prime Video. The movie is set in 1970s L.A. and London. It’s based on the extraordinary real-life scandal that made headlines worldwide, involving an eccentric MENSA beauty queen who goes to extreme lengths to stop the Mormon church from stealing her sexual obsession: a nebbish Mormon missionary. The film will begin shooting in the first quarter of 2023 in the US and UK.

“Sinner v. Saints” Cast and Crew

“Sinner v. Saints” will be the debut screenplay by writer Jill Hoppe. Director Tim Kirkby is probably best know for his directorial work on series like Fleabag (2016) and Veep (2013–2014).

PRODUCER: Mark Williams – Andriana Williams

Manacled Mormon Case that Inspired “Sinner v. Saints”

The Manacled Mormon Case is a strange tale that involves two Americans in England: beauty queen Joyce McKinney and a young American Mormon missionary, Kirk Anderson. McKinney was accused of handcuffing Anderson to a bed, hence where the “manacled” part of the case’s name comes from. McKinney then sexually assaulted her victim, but was eventually apprehended by British authorities for the crime.

However, she was allowed release on bail which gave her the opportunity to flee to the United States. Once back home, McKinney was able to evade extradition and never faced trial for her alleged crimes. She did however, continue to have run-ins with the law throughout her life and was even responsible for killing a 91-year-old Holocaust survivor in a hit and run crash in 2019.

Riverdale Actor Camila Mendes Stars in New Movie Música on Prime Video

Camila Mendes will be getting in touch with her Brazilian roots as she takes on Amazon’s upcoming feature film “Música”. The film is set to begin production this summer. “Rim of the World” (2019) actor Rudy Mancuso will play a young man, plagued by the music in his head. He is forced to come to terms with an uncertain future while balancing love, family and Brazilian culture in Newark, New Jersey.

“Música” Cast and Crew

Mendes is also dual-hatted on this production. She is filling the starring role while also acting as the film’s Executive Producer. While her on-camera persona Veronica Lodge is of Mexican descent in Mendes’ hit CW show “Riverdale”, she traces her roots back to Brazil in real-life. A native Portuguese speaker, Mendes will be tapping into her cultural background to bring the Brazilian-American love story to life.

For Mendes’ co-star, “Música” will only be Mancuso’s third feature film following Netflix’s “Rim of the World” and the upcoming DCEU movie “The Flash” (2023). “Música” will also be written and directed by Mancuso. The film will be a bit of a homecoming story for Mancuso who was raised in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. The son of a Brazilian mother, Mancuso spent some time living in Brazil and speaks Portuguese fluently.

“Música” will reunite many of the creative minds behind Netflix’s 2020 Horror/Comedy film “The Babysitter: Killer Queen” (2020). Producers McG, Steven Bello, Dan Lagana, and Mary Viola will all be reunited for the creation of another film. Brothers and Shots Studios co-founders Sam and John Shahidi will also be producing the new film.

Celebrity Video Service Review: Cameo, GalaxyCon, Streamily, vShout

If you want a personalized celebrity video message or shoutout then you’re in luck. There are a ton of competitors in this space to choose from like Cameo, GalaxyCon Live, Streamily, vShout, Celebvm, LiveSigning, and Celebvidy. All of these celebrity video services seek to bring fans closer to celebrities through video interactions and no one service is exactly the same. But the crowded marketplace makes choosing just one a difficult proposition.

This review will help you differentiate between the celebrity video services based on several important differentiating factors. I’ll cover exactly what you can expect from each service to include: pricing and information about what you get when you purchase celebrity videos and shoutouts from these companies. Furthermore, several services like Streamily and LiveSigning offer an option to purchase celebrity autographs in addition to their video services, so we will also explore those options as well.

Ranking by Autograph Services

Rosario Dawson with autographs
photo: Rosario Dawson at a GalaxyCon private signing

1. Streamily

Streamily is my top pick between all of the autograph services. While they concentrate mostly on video game and anime voice over actors, they do have a wide selection of celebrities to choose from. Furthermore, they are very active with bringing new guests and signings online. The constant rate that they churn out signings, means that on just about any given day, you can order an autograph, watch a live-stream, and interact with a celebrity from one of your favorite franchises. Even better, as I mentioned in my Streamily review, their service is only getting better as the young company continues to expand their offerings.

2. LiveSigning

LiveSigning is the celebrity video component of Premiere Collectibles, which is the world’s biggest seller of autographed books. The two services work hand in hand so that when you purchase select books, you are able to submit questions to celebrity authors to be answered during a live streamed book signing. Some live streams even offer the ability to interact with celebrities through real time chat. It’s an incredible service that is offered at no additional cost. Given that many of the signed books offered by Premiere Collectibles are sold near the MSRP of their unsigned counterparts, it’s an incredible value!

3. GalaxyCon Live

As their name suggests, GalaxyCon Live has made a name for itself through its pop culture and comic conventions. In recent years, they have expanded those in-person events to meet the demands of a public seeking to experience celebrity interactions remotely. Large conventions like the ones held by GalaxyCon can attract big name talent. The fact that they have grown accustomed to working with celebrities like Rosario Dawson gives them an edge over the competition.

However, while they do offer a lot of signings, they ultimately missed out on the #1 spot in the ranking due to their relative lack of offerings compared to their rival Streamily. They also took a hit in the rankings due to their relatively high prices compared to their direct competitors.

4. vShout

A subsidiary of the autograph company ZOBIE, vShout is a major player, both when it comes to autograph and celebrity shout-outs. They have a large selection of pre-signed back-inventory autographs to choose from and their prices are competitive. The only thing holding them back from ranking higher against their competition is their relative lack of talent. Like Streamily, their stable of celebrity signers largely consists of video game and anime voice over actors with the occasional wrestler thrown in for good measure.

5. Cameo

As noted above, Cameo is strictly a celebrity shout-out business with the exception of one-off instances where a celebrity may choose to include an autograph with the purchase of a video. Cameo CEO Steven Galanis has even said that selfies are the new autographs. While he does have a point that celebrity selfies and professional photo ops are only gaining in popularity, he is entirely too quick to count out autographs as a thing of the past.

Ranking by Celebrity Video Services

GalaxyCon Live Meet and Greet
photo: GalaxyCon

1. GalaxyCon Live

GalaxyCon Live is doing celebrity videos right. They aren’t just offering a three second celebrity shout-out or even a minutes long pre-recorded video, albeit tailor made for a fan. They are actually connecting fans and celebrities, live and face to face with their meet and greet packages. These packages get fans about as close to an in-person convention experience as they can get from the comfort of their own home. Meet and greets are interactive experiences where fans usually get about three minutes to talk with their favorite celebrities.

It’s a rich experience, because fans can take the conversation where they want to and utilize their time as they see fit. Maybe they just want to relay how much a celebrity has impacted their lives or perhaps simply ask a question or two. Either way, it’s a kind of interaction that outside of cons was something often only enjoyed by the fan mail and through the mail autograph collecting community.

2. Cameo

Given that Cameo is exclusively a celebrity video service, you might have expected it to be the best in that category. In some ways it is. Cameo does deliver its customers with videos usually lasting a minute or more. Customers can also make specific requests of the celebrities whether it be that they recite a movie quote or send well wishes for a special occasion like a birthday or other life events. Overall though, it’s services are limited as it lacks direct fan/celebrity interaction and neglects that autograph market all together.

3. Streamily

Streamily strikes a good balance between their autograph and live streaming services. When you buy a celebrity autograph from Streamily, you also get the opportunity to watch them sign it during a live-streamed signing event. During the live-stream, customers and celebrities have access to a chat room where they can interact with each other. Of course, the celebrities can also respond directly over the live-stream itself.

In a way, you’re getting that one on one celebrity interaction that GalaxyCon Live gives you, but to a much lesser degree. However, that difference is also reflected in the price because it’s baked into your autograph purchase. For no additional cost, you have a chance to speak directly to your favorite celebrity which is much more than you will get from some of the leading autograph signing companies like SWAU or Official Pix.

They do also have select offerings of personalized videos, much the same as the ones offered by Cameo. As the autograph/celebrity video company really begins to hit its stride, it could easily overtake Cameo in the celebrity video category.

Read a full review of Streamily here.

4. vShout

While vShout bills itself as an autograph and celebrity shout-out business, the shout-outs take a back seat. When customers shop through vShout and buy an autograph, they also get a shout-out from that celebrity, which in all honesty is often little more than a few seconds long mention of the customer’s name. Their video offerings are so poor that they barely even fit into the category.

Read a full review of vShout’s services here.

5. LiveSigning

LiveSigning, a company owned by the autographed bookseller Premiere Collectibles, also deserves a mention here, although their streaming service is less robust than some of its competitors. They tend to do one live streamed signing event per author following the release of a book. Signed copies are then made available for sale on Premiere Collectibles. The two sites work hand in hand together to bring customers a uniquely personal shopping experience.

LiveSigning’s live streamed events allow Premiere Collectibles customers to submit questions to the authors. This creates an experience somewhat like that of Streamily’s service. Although LiveSigning doesn’t conduct as many signings as Streamily does, they do have a lot of high caliber talent like Elizabeth Olsen that have worked with them in the past.

Read a full review of LiveSigning and Premiere Collectibles here.

6. Celebvm

Celebvm exists in the shadows of Cameo and VShout. They do what those services do, but with fewer relevant celebrities and a user experience that leaves a lot to be desired. When browsing through the “celebrities” they had to offer, I struggled to find more than a handful who were remotely relevant and even less that I could ever imagine wanting to get a shout out from. Unless Celebvm is offering a particular celebrity that you want a video from that isn’t available on any of the other platforms, then you should take your business to one of their competitors.

7. Celebvidy

Celebvidy is getting nothing more than an honorable mention here. Endorsed by American DJ Steve Aoki, the service had a failure to launch following an initial offering in 2019. While their site is still up and running, there is no way to order videos from the service at this time.

The Best Celebrity Autograph / Video Service

Overall, the best celebrity autograph and video service is Streamily. When you factor in pricing, services, and celebrity rosters, the upstart service comes out ahead of the competition. I appreciate the balance they strike between providing fans with an affordable and accessible means of interacting with celebrities while maintaining a format that makes it possible at scale. They also deserve credit for their straightforward pricing model with minimal upcharges for things like dedications and inscriptions which more and more is becoming the industry standard.

Streamily: Best overall autograph and celebrity video service.
GalaxyCon Live: Best celebrity interactions with their meet and greet offerings.
Cameo: Best celebrity video message service.
vShout: Competitive pricing with great future potential.
LiveSigning: Great selection of celebrity signers with a limited number of signings and fewer opportunities for direct interactions.
Celebvm: This service is trailing behind the competition and should be the last place you go to for celebrity videos.

Ferrari Biopic Starring Adam Driver, Penelope Cruz Gears Up for Production

Director Michael Mann’s production studio Forward Pass, Inc. is developing another Enzo Ferrari biopic that is gearing up for production in mid-July. Stars are expected to descend on Italy at that time, with Adam Driver slated to play the film’s titular character while Penélope Cruz will play Enzo’s wife Laura. Big Little Lies star Shailene Woodley has also been cast to take on the role of Ferrari’s mistress Lina Lardi.

The film will recreate the summer of 1957 when all the forces in Enzo Ferrari’s life – which were often as combustible and volatile as the iconic race cars he built – collided. The now legendary car company he and his wife Laura built was at the time going broke. Their tempestuous marriage had already suffered the death of their son, Dino, and Ferrari’s other son, 12-year old Piero, the product of a wartime romance. He faced all of that and more as he was struggling to find his place in the world.

The entrepreneur rolled the dice for all their futures on one race – 1,000 miles across Italy, the brutal and infamous 1957 Mille Miglia. The film will be framed so that during the highly dangerous race, Laura discovers long kept secrets. We see opportunities rise and fade, and drivers, who are like surrogate sons, are pushed beyond the edge.

“Ferrari” Cast and Crew

Industry veteran Troy Kennedy Martin has been writing scripts for high-speed car films since his first movie for 1969’s “The Italian Job” which he followed up with the film’s 2003 reboot. Meanwhile, Director Michael Mann, also brings an incredible amount of experience to the film having worked on several biopics in the past to include: “Ali” (2001), “The Aviator” (2004), and “Ford v Ferrari” (2019). “Ferrari” will therefore mark Mann’s second romp through the life and times of the famous car maker. This time Mann will take viewers on a deepdive into Ferrari’s personal and professional life a full nine years before the events of “Ford v Ferrari”.

Keanu Reeves to Produce John Wick Spinoff “Ballerina” Starring Ana de Armas

Keanu Reeves is set to produce a John Wick Spinoff starring Ana de Armas which is scheduled to begin filming this summer. “Ballerina” is an action film that follows a young girl raised as an assassin who is recruited by a black ops government organization. She employs her unique skill set as she sets out to get revenge on those who killed her family. Orphaned at a young age, Rooney Brown (played by Ana de Armas) is a trained killer that travels the globe eliminating terrorists, and other targets, but strictly refuses to kill anyone that she doesn’t believe deserves death. After being targeted by a rival organization, Rooney retires but then seeks revenge when her entire family is slaughtered. She’s strong, ruthless, and seemingly cold in her approach to killing – but exhibits some humanity along the way. She successfully takes out an entire town full of assassins, and then returns home.

Ana de Armas’ Woman-Wick will have a similar story arc to her male counterpart John Wick. In “John Wick” (2014) we saw Reeves’ titular character return to the life of a professional assassin in order to avenge the death of a loved one. In Wick’s case it was the death of his dog, his last connection to his departed wife, that sparked his reign of death, while the motivation for Armas’ Rooney Brown, will be drawn from the killing of her family.

“Ballerina” Cast and Crew

Director of the Underworld series Len Wiseman has been tapped to direct “Ballerina”. The bulk of his directorial experience has dealt with sci-fi and fantasy with a focus on action. His experience working on action films like “Live Free or Die Hard” (2007) will help go a long way in the director’s chair for a John Wick movie, which have always been highly focused on the action sequences.

Keanu Reeves will be stepping behind the camera for “Ballerina” and has taken on the role of Producer, just as he has decided to do for “John Wick: Chapter 4” which he will also be starring in. The Matrix actor is also producing a film adaptation of his comic book BRZRKR. Also joining the “Ballerina” crew from “John Wick: Chapter 4” are producers Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Chad Stahelsk, and writer Shay Hatten.

vShout: Everything You Need to Know About the Autograph Service

Autograph signing company ZOBIE launched vShout in 2020. It’s their combination celebrity shout-out/autograph service that has been connecting fans and celebrities even from afar. The service arose in the wake of the comic and pop culture convention cancellations that dramatically changed the autograph industry as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. With no physical conventions at the time for celebrities to attend and sign autographs for fans, ZOBIE saw an opening in the market that needed to be filled, and they sought to do it virtually. vShout came to prominence along with similar services like Cameo, Streamily, and GalaxyCon Live. None of these services are exactly the same though.

Despite vShout getting its name from the pre-recorded shout-outs that come with autographs purchased through the service, the autographs themselves still take center stage. Their videos on the other hand seem more like an afterthought for vShout. Many of their shout-outs consist of little more than a brief three second aside. The company does have some aspects to its service that makes it unique and worthwhile though. So if you’re curious to know exactly what you’ll get from vShout, keep reading to find out about how their video services, pricing, and signing options stack up to other players in the autograph industry.

Pros and Cons of vShout’s Service

William Zabka vShout

I’ll start with what’s great about vShout—their autograph service. Parent company ZOBIE is one of the top recommended sellers of signed Funko POPs. They have built a solid reputation for selling authentic autographs thanks to the private signings they conduct with celebrities. So if you’re asking if ZOBIE, and by extension vShout, is legit, the answer is yes! You can buy with confidence when ordering through vShout’s online store. They even offer their own serialized stickers for tracking and assurance of authenticity. Alternatively you can pay an extra $10 for a JSA sticker.

Importantly, when you shop with vShout, you’re not just getting an autograph, you’re also getting a celebrity shout-out as well. Strangely though, pricing remains the same between ZOBIE and vShout. For example, a certified Christina Ricci autograph costs $110 from ZOBIE and the same from vShout, but with the additional video message. Furthermore, if you don’t opt for the JSA certification from vShout the price drops to $100. So in effect, you are getting more for less if you do a vShout signing over purchasing from ZOBIE’s stock. Of course, it should also be mentioned that ZOBIE and vShout are priced slightly above the competition with autograph services like Official Pix selling signed Christina Ricci 8x10s for only $90.

A Focus on Uncommon Signers

Photo: Streamily

The core of vShout’s signers are voice over actors (VOA) and talent from popular franchises that may not have been in the limelight for quite some time. That’s not to say that the autograph company’s stable of celebrity signers is undesirable, but they haven’t begun to offer the A-list actors that services like Star Wars Autograph Universe or Official Pix have come to be known for. In fact, the two biggest talents that sign for vShout are probably Christopher Lloyd and Christina Ricci. Both of them are also on competing services, so the company doesn’t have a lot of notable exclusives from the looks of it.

vShout’s User Experience

Photo: Streamily

Many customers have come away from vShout’s private signings feeling very happy with the experience. It starts with the ordering process which is pretty straight forward. You simply choose whether you are doing a send-in or pre-order and then you select your photo or arrange to have your item signed. If you are doing a send-in, most items must be pre-cleared by vShout so give yourself a good amount of lead-time ahead of the signing date. Once your order is in, it’s just a matter of waiting for your autograph and shout-out which will likely come at different times.

Of course, any time when you are dealing with shipping, there is a possibility that your items may be damaged. If that’s the case, vShout is committed to having the autograph re-done when damage occurs or if there is an error in the personalization, such as a misspelled name.

vShout’s Recorded Autograph Experiences

vShout is named after the company’s pre-recorded celebrity shout-out service, the eponymous vShout. Given that vShouts are its flagship service, one would expect them to be much more substantive than they are. In reality, the actual shout-out may be as brief as only mentioning the customer’s name, and may be as long as a few sentences. It’s unclear if the celebrities are simply disinterested in interacting with fans or if the pre-recorded nature of the shout-outs is so impersonal as to not elicit a genuine interaction.

Ultimately, it would seem that vShout is at least making an effort to create some kind of dialogue between fans and celebrities. On some of their autograph order pages, there is a box where customers can add personal notes for the signers to read. It’s unclear if this is being underutilized by fans /or if the notes simply aren’t being passed on by the company. Regardless, the results are pretty clear. Many fans find themselves underwhelmed by the two to three second shout-out they receive. Ultimately, it gives the impression that minimal effort is being put in by many of the company’s signers.

Print Selection / Send-in Options

Photo: Streamily

While vShout has a fairly limited licensed print selection, they do tend to have a decent selection. Depending on the signer, you might see movie and TV stills, official artwork, or even fan art. Of course, just like their competitor Streamily, vShout also offers the same kinds of collages that have been plaguing voice actors’ convention booths for decades. So there is some bad mixed in with the good. That’s okay because fan art and character collages are to some fans’ liking, so I would say that they’ve stuck a good balance across a wide range of tastes.

If their stock photos aren’t to your liking though, then utilizing vShout’s send-in options would be a good choice. They offer send-in options for, if not all, then most of their signings. However, there are some limitations. They don’t accept full sized posters and items like Funko POPs and already signed items require customers to pay an upcharge for their handling that ranges between $10 to $30 extra. This is a fairly common practice for send-in signings, but it can still feel like companies are nickel and diming customers when they do it. Ultimately, their offerings are so diverse that every collector should be able to find something to get signed that they will be happy with.

Marvel’s Spider-Man film “Madame Web” Spins Up To Begin Filming in Boston

The Spider-Man “Spin”-off film “Madame Web” is getting ready to start production in Boston, MA in July of 2022. But don’t let Cassandra Webb AKA Madame Web’s name fool you. She is not a web swinger like your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. According to comic lore, Cassandra Webb, who suffered from a lifetime of blindness and many years of neurological deterioration due to myasthenia gravis. She compensated for her ailment with her profound psychic abilities, establishing herself as a medium.

Using these powers, Madame Web discovered Peter Parker’s secret identity when Spider-Man rescued one of her students who had been kidnapped during a scam at the Daily Globe newspaper. Later, Madame Web helped Spider-Man prevent an assassination attempt against a political candidate. When supervillain Black Tom Cassidy sent the Juggernaut to kidnap Web so he could use her powers for his criminal activities, she foresaw the attack and called Spider-Man for help. He could not stop the Juggernaut, who left Madame Web in a state of severe shock after he unknowingly removed her from her chair, which provided her vital life functions.

“Madame Web” is expected to hit theaters with a scheduled July 7, 2023 release date.

“Madame Web” Cast and Crew

Dakota Johnson has been tapped for the lead role of Madame Web. The “Fifty Shades of Grey” actress has remained silent about being cast in the role, with the exception of her low-key posting of a web on her Instagram story to confirm her participation in the Marvel movie. Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney will be joining Johnson, but her role has yet to be confirmed.

Marvel has hired three writers to create the script for “Madame Web”: Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, and Kerem Sanga. The choice of writers is somewhat strange, as Sanga has no prior experience writing for the MCU, and Sazama and Sharpless have only the 2022 Marvel movie “Morbius” to their names, but it was a critical failure. In spite of that, it seems that Marvel is willing to let these writers play in Marvel’s sandbox one more time.

Ghostbusters 5: Initial Details Revealed for “Afterlife” Follow-up Film

The next installment in the long-running but recently invigorated Ghostbusters franchise is now in development. The fifth entry into the film series will pick up where Ghostbusters: Afterlife left off. The story revolved around a single mom and her two kids. When they arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

“Ghostbusters 5” Cast and Crew

“Afterlife” Director Jason Reitman has been brought back onboard by Columbia Pictures to produce the upcoming film. Co-producing with Reitman is Helen Estabrook. Estabrook is new to the Ghostbusters franchise, but is known for her work producing films such as Demolition (2015) and Wyrm (2019). Outside of the film’s two producers, no additional cast and crew have been confirmed at this time. However, it’s a safe bet that since “Ghostbusters 5” will be a direct continuation of the “Afterlife” story, we can expect to see most of the previous film’s cast returning to include: Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace. Of course Ghostbuster veterans, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts, among others, will all be expected to make an appearance.
