Send Fan Mail to The Stranger Things Cast & Crew & Request Autographs

Stranger Things is one of Netflix‘s flagship series. It took America by storm in 2016 and turned our idea of what a Netflix show could be Upside Down. The Spielberg-esque 80’s sci-fi drama has made fans out of many, garner an devoted following. It’s made the stars of Stranger Things popular guests at conventions, especially among autograph seekers. However, conventions aren’t the only way to obtain autographs from celebrities.

Writing fan mail is a great way to reach out to people who you admire or otherwise inspire you in order to request an autograph. It’s simple and anyone can get started in minutes if they read our guide on how to write fan mail and request autographs through the mail (TTM). Your chances are very good of getting a response from Stranger Thing’s many visual effects artists or the writers who make it what the show is, but if you choose to reach for the stars, you may find success there as well.

David Harbour is well known for his roles in Hell Boy and Suicide Squad, but he is probably best known for his work in Stranger Things as officer Jim Hopper. While David is known to attend comic cons and charge for autographs, over the years, a number of lucky fans have received autographs TTM signed by David for free. In fact, I received a great response from David which you can check out on the Tales From The Collection TikTok!

How to Write Fan Mail: Example Template and Guide

Writing fan mail is an incredible way to contact the celebrities, athletes, and musicians whose work means the most to you. In a way though, it can be a scary proposition. Reaching out to someone you admire can cause anxiety in a lot of people, but it doesn’t have to. This guide will make it easy for you open a line of communication with a celebrity while leaving a lot of room for you to make your fan mail personal and specific to the person you’re writing to.

Weather your end goal is simply to express your appreciation for a public figure or you’d like to request an autograph, an old-fashioned letter is still the best way to go. While I’ve written about the broader process of how to send fan mail before, this article will focus strictly on crafting the fan letter itself.

Writing a Good Fan Letter

A well written and sincere letter is one of the key factors in determining whether or not you will get a reply. Some people manage to get responses with very low effort generic form letters. However, this is not the way to go. I guarantee that your success rate will be higher if you put time into your writing. Craft a thoughtful and considerate letter and you will be much happier with the results. That’s because, a thoughtful letter is much more likely to merit a thoughtful and meaningful response from the celebrity. I’ll give you an example of what I mean.

Harrison Ford is an A-list celebrity whose autograph easily goes for over $1,000 at a signing. His signature is highly sought after by collectors, and he therefore receives thousands of letters a year from fans asking for a free autograph. Almost all are responded to by a secretary with a pre-print signature (essentially a photo copy of a real autograph). However, each year, a lucky few receive a genuine autograph from Mr. Ford. A few years back, I was lucky enough to be one of those chosen few and I attribute that to the sincere letter that I sent to him.

How to Send Fan Mail to The Star Wars Cast Members & Request Their Autograph

How Fan Mail Works

Sometimes your letter will be received directly by the celebrity you are writing to. As previously alluded to though, more often than not, it will go through an intermediary. That could be someone who works at the actor’s agency or their personal secretary. Either way, the fact of the matter is that your letter will likely be read and sorted before ever reaching its intended audience. Therefore, you want to dedicate a lot of effort to writing your letters to help ensure that they actually reach the celebrity and don’t wind up in the trash.

To that end, I have outlined the basic structure of a solid fan letter. You are highly encouraged to tailor beyond the predetermined blanks to make it more specific to the recipient. Once you get comfortable with the general structure of a fan letter, you will begin to find your own voice more and more. Given enough time and experience your writing style will eventually lead to a letters that are wholly your own.

Fan Mail Header

The header of your fan mail is pretty straight forward. Simply put the celebrity’s name and address there. In addition to the free autograph tracker spreadsheet, keeping a record of what address you sent to on the letter itself will be a big help. It makes tracking easier and makes addressing your envelopes a bit faster having the address conveniently located at the top of your letter.

Fan Mail Introduction Paragraph

When writing fan mail, it’s a good practice to use the first paragraph as an introduction. Talk a bit about yourself and why the signer’s work is important to you. If a celebrity or public figure has impacted your life in a significant way, then this is the place to let them know about it! Try and avoid saying general things like “I like your movies” and go into specifics by listing your favorite ones and why.

This helps to make your letter more personal and feel like it isn’t just the same standard form that you send to everyone. You are asking a stranger to take time out of their day for you, so the least that you can do is show them that you put time and thought into your request.

Example Introduction Paragraph

Example Introduction Paragraph

Fan Mail “Connection” Paragraph

I like to think of the second paragraph in the fan letters that I write as the “connection” paragraph. I use this space to establish report with the individual I’m writing to. Usually that involves a mention of a particular cause or issue that the celebrity is known to champion. However, not everyone is an activist or perhaps my ideals may not align with theirs. That’s fine.

There are many ways to establish a connection with a celebrity. Maybe they are also parents, enjoy the same activities, or have achieved something particularly admirable that you wish to highlight. In every fan letter ever written, there is a mention of the writer being a “fan”. It’s such a common expression that it has become devoid of meaning. What’s important here is that you show some interest in the person that you are writing to. By building a connection with the reader, you will help to ensure that your letter stands out and is remembered. This will lead to not only a higher chance of a reply, but to a higher quality one that you will be much happier to receive.

Example Introduction Paragraph

Example Introduction Paragraph

Fan Mail Closing Paragraph

The closing paragraph wraps up your fan letter. Use this space to lay out exactly what you are requesting. If that’s an autograph, you may choose to request that it be dedicated to a specific individual. You also might have some questions that you’d like to direct the reader. Whatever your motivation for writing, this is a good place to lay it out and thank the celebrity your writing to for their time and consideration.

Nintendo President Doug Bowser Honors Cub Scout Troop’s Achievement

Scout Leader Seeks Nintendo’s Help

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED — Six young Cub Scouts from Wisconsin got some incredible recognition for their achievement from the President of Nintendo of America himself—Doug Bowser. Cub Scout pack leader Shaun Tanner reached out to the video game company, hoping they might recognize the hard work and dedication of the six young Cub Scouts under his charge. They all recently earned the rank of Arrow of Light, the highest achievement in Cub Scouting.

Posting on Facebook, Tanner explained that as a Cub Scout leader, he had organized a Blue & Gold Banquet (a celebration of the anniversary of the founding of the BSA) “which was ‘electronic’ themed, yet no electronics were played, only electronic themed games like Sonic the Hedgehog Ring Toss and Wreck-It Ralph Giant Jenga.” He went on to say that “prior to the event he decided to reached out to Nintendo of America to see if they could send congratulatory letters to each of the Scouts.” Tanner found that it wasn’t as easy to do as he had perhaps imagined. However, after many emails and phone calls, he was eventually able to get through to the right department! At that point, he “simply asked for them to write a letter on official Nintendo letterhead congratulating each Scout on their achievements.”

Nintendo Comes Through For BSA

Unfortunately, the letters Tanner requested didn’t arrive in time for the event. but eventually, the letters did come! To Tanner’s delight he received a welcome surprise from the Washington-based company when Nintendo came through with bookmarks and six letters—one for each Scout. Every letter was hand signed by President Bowser himself in recognition of the Scouts’ meritorious achievement.

It is my esteemed privilege to congratulate you for your success in achieving the Arrow of Light. We are honored that we were contacted to acknowledge this important moment in your life.

Bowser went on to not only congratulate the Scouts for the hard work and dedication that led them to that point, but encouraged them to continue working hard on their journeys towards success and community service.

The skills and lessons that you’ve learned as you’ve worked towards today’s recognition will be valuable for the rest of your life as you strive for success and serve your community.

Nintendo Cares About Their Fans!

Nintendo has a long and rich history of meaningful customer interactions that goes back to the early 90’s with the creation of the company’s famed Gameplay Counselors. They have perfected the art of making their fans feel welcome and we see examples of this all the time! President Bowser’s response is further proof that Nintendo has continued to honor their position of esteem among their fans, especially when it comes to young gamers.

Rare Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy/Manga Illustrator) Autograph Signing

Through Japanese importer Takasan, premium wine and sake maker Asahara Shuzo Brewery Co. is offering an incredibly rare opportunity to get a hand signed autograph from famed Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano. There is even a chance for a select few to have a meet and greet with the artist over video conference. Final Fantasy fans will immediately recognize Amano’s work. He has been a key part of the franchise since its beginning. Amano was the character designer, title logo designer, and graphic designer on Square’s 1987 debut entry to the Final Fantasy series on the Famicom (known as the NES in the United States). He has been integral to the look and feel of the video games series ever since, designing title logos for games as recent as the newly released Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. Amano is also known for his work on Speed Racer and Vampire Hunter D to name a few.

Yoshitaka Amano Autograph Packages

Takasan is offering several packages at various price points. Make sure to read the fine print before purchasing though, as some packages include a digital autograph rather than the hand signed autograph boards that come in the premium packages!

Bleed Them Dry Collectible Set

Bleed Them Dry Collectible Set

The Bleed Them Dry (BTD) collectible set costs $275. It includes the red and black BTD Sake (details below), as well as what Takasan describes as one “BTD Artwork w/digital autograph”. Presumably this would come as a digital download of Amano’s vampire artwork. This package also includes a pre-recorded video message from Amano.

The Bleed Them Dry (BTD) Bloodthirsty Vampire set costs $295. It includes the red and black BTD Sake, as well as three art prints with a digital autograph. Unlike the previous package, this one has physical prints, but they still feature a facsimile signature. This package also includes the pre-recorded video message from Amano.

Bleed Them Dry Eternal Vampire Amano VIP Set

Bleed Them Dry Eternal Vampire Amano VIP Set

This is where the packages start to get really interesting! The Eternal Vampire Amano VIP Set costs $389 and is limited to only 30 sets. There is a significant jump in price because of the introduction of a hand signed art board known as a Shikishi  in Japan. In addition to the Shikishi, the rest of the package remains the same as the BTD Bloodthirsty Vampire set. That means you’ll also get the red and black BTD Sake, as well as three art prints with a digital autograph and the video message from Amano.

Yoshitaka Amano

The Ultimate Vampire Amano VIP Set costs $499 and will only be available to five lucky fans. In addition to the hand signed Shikishi , this set also comes with a rare one-on-one zoom video chat with Yoshitaka Amano! That’s an incredibly rare opportunity. Don’t worry about the language barrier either as a translator will be on hand to facilitate communication. Buyers will also get a limited edition Bleed Them Dry Graphic Novel with this set. The rest of the package remains the same as the BTD Bloodthirsty Vampire set. That means you’ll also get the red and black BTD Sake, as well as three art prints with a digital autograph and the video message from Amano.

Another Chance for an Autograph: Yoshitaka Amano’s VR Museum

If sake isn’t your thing, there’s another way to get Amano’s autograph. If you want something more video game related, consider contributing to a Kickstarter that aims to create the largest official exhibition of iconic Amano artwork, including Final Fantasy and Vampire Hunter D, transformed into 3D VR models. Unfortunately, if money was a big obstacle in with the previous offering, Amano’s Kickstarter won’t offer a reprieve.

There are many different packages that contributors can choose, but if it’s an autograph you’re after, you can expect to pay $600 or more for a package that includes a signed poster. For about $1,718 you can get a signed poster, art book, and framed print in addition to a bunch of Amano swag and unlimited access to the museum. Video game legends like Dragon Quest Composer Koichi Sugiyama and Nintendo President Satoru Iwata are passing at an alarming rate so when opportunities like this come up, you have to act fast!

Fan Mail, TTM Autograph FAQs

Writing fan mail to celebrities and athletes is fun and easy, but a lot of questions about the hobby frequently come up. Certain aspects can be confusing: where to find addresses, which celebrities sign through the mail (TTM), and what are all of the acronyms? All of these questions and more will be explored on this post.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TTM autograph collecting?

Through the mail (TTM) autograph collecting is where fan mail meets autograph collecting. Fan mail is simply a way for a fan to reach out to a public figure to express their admiration or share their thoughts. In that way, TTM is the same, but with the additional request for an autograph.

What do all of the acronyms and terms associated with fan mail mean?

TTM – through the mail

SASE – self addressed stamped envelope
• A SASE is what you include along with your letter. It’s the envelope that the recipient will use to send your items back to you. Therefore it will have your address in the center of the envelope (the destination address) as well as enough return postage to cover the trip back.

LOR – letter of request
• A LOR is the letter that you send to request an autograph. Your letter should always be polite and genuine. For the greatest chance of a response, avoid the use of form letters and make each LOR personal. And above all, always be kind and respectful.

HWLOR – handwritten letter of request
• Some collectors may specify that their LOR is handwritten. While I haven’t personally experienced an increased response rate between typed and handwritten letters, the majority of collectors still handwrite all of their letters.

PP – Pre Print (pre printed autograph)
• A pre print is a photo printed with a replicated signature. A pen never touched the photo in this case.

Secretarial Signature
• A secretarial signature is an autograph done by the signers representative, usually a secretary who signs in their stead.

Stamped Signature
• Sometimes, a signers representative will choose to use a rubber stamp to replicate someone’s signature rather than attempting to mimic someone else’s signature style.

Autopen Signature
• An autopen is a signature done by a machine using a real pen. These make them look very real as they match a signers signature style and can appear to be hand signed.

Will I get a response to my autograph request?

Not every celebrity replies to fan mail, but many do. If you are writing to celebrities who are actively signing and using tested addresses, then your success rate should be rather high. As a general rule though, the bigger the celebrity, the more fan mail they receive. That means it will be harder for your fan mail to make it into the hands of some of the biggest celebrities, but it’s not impossible. There are lots that sign dependably—here are 30 of them!

How much postage do I need?

The cost of shipping is largely determined by the dimensions and weight of your envelope/package. If you are sending a one ounce letter with small photos or cards to get signed, your letter will only require one forever stamp for domestic shipping or one global forever stamp for international shipping. You can calculate the cost of anything larger than that on USPS’s website.

How do you send fan mail from the U.S. to the U.K?

The process for sending fan mail domestically is exactly the same as it is for sending to the U.K. with one big exception—postage. When sending your autograph request from the U.S., you’ll use U.S. postage on the outer envelope, but British postage for the return envelope, because U.S. postage is not valid overseas. To purchase British postage directly from the U.K., visit the Royal Mail’s website which offers international shipping.

How do you send fan mail from the U.S. to Canada?

The process for sending fan mail domestically is exactly the same as it is for sending to Canada with one big exception—postage. When sending your autograph request from the U.S., you’ll use U.S. postage on the outer envelope, but Canadian postage for the return envelope, because U.S. postage is not valid overseas. To purchase Canadian postage directly from Canada, visit Canada Post’s website which offers international shipping.

Where do I find addresses for fan mail and autograph requests?

There are a lot of address databases and services—both paid and free. The best service is an inexpensive one called startiger.com. The list of resources for fan mail address offers good free and premium options to get you started sending fan mail.

How long does it take to get a fan mail response?

Replies from celebrities can in rare cases take be as quick as a week or as long as a decade! In most cases though, if you’re going to get a reply, it’s usually in the first 3 months or so. However, getting a reply up to a year or more later is fairly common place.

How to tell if an autograph is real or fake?

Determining an autograph’s authenticity can be difficult, even for professionals. It is a holistic approach that takes all factors into consideration. Ink is examined to see if it was written by a human hand and if the type of ink is appropriate for the time in which it was supposedly signed. Comparative analysis to known authentic examples is really the most significant part of the equation. This can rule out many types of fake autographs. More details can be found in this in-depth look at autograph authentication.

Do I need to send something to get signed?

Sending something to get signed, weather it be a photo, trading card, or index card, is always a good idea. Some celebrities don’t have photos on hand and if there is nothing for them to sign then you are likely to miss out. Therefore, it is always best practice to send something when requesting an autograph. At a bare minimum collectors should have forever stamps, archival quality index cards, as well as #9 and #10 envelopes—all available from Amazon.

Do celebrities and athletes charge for their autographs through the mail?

Generally, you don’t need to pay for autographs obtained through the mail. Celebrities and athletes tend not to charge for their autograph when signing TTM, even when they might do so at conventions! In the rare case that they do ask for a signing fee, that information can usually be found in their respective websites. Otherwise, you’ll likely get a reply with instructions on how to proceed with payment.

Where can I share my fan mail responses and TTM successes?

The autograph forum is the perfect place to share your latest successes with like-minded collectors! It’s also a great place to go to get help with addresses and the hobby in general.

How many items should I send to get signed?

When sending items through the mail for signing, it’s best to send no more than three. Individual signers may have their own policy on how many items they sign. Sometimes this is stated explicitly on their website or it may just require trial and error to find out how many they are willing to sign.

Where do you get photos for autograph requests?

Google image searches will help you find photos of your favorite celebrities and athletes. Unfortunately, not every image is suitable for printing, especially for large format photos. To ensure that your prints aren’t pixelated, 8×10″ prints will require photos that are at least 2400 X 3000 pixels (see the chart below for other sizes). Once you have a suitable image, you can order prints of high quality on Amazon. An in-depth look at ordering photos can be found here.

How do you send an 8×10 TTM?

Sending 8×10 photos through the small safely requires a few supplies: cardboard backing, painter’s tape, and envelopes. A sturdy piece of cardboard backing is essential for keeping your photos from being bent or folded. Amazon carries 8×10 pieces that can be secured to a photo by painters tape which doesn’t damage the photo when removed. The outer envelope will need to be 9.5×12.5 inches while the inner return envelope will be 9×12 inches. Pack your SASE, LOR, and photo in the larger envelope and send it off!

Is glossy or matte better for autographs?

Matte photos are always best for autographs because they hold ink better. Some pens are worse than others, but glossy surfaces can sometimes repel ink and paint, leaving you with a messy looking autograph.

Who signs autographs through the mail (TTM)?

It’s not just actors, athletes, and musicians that respond to fan mail. There are people in all walks of life who are known to reply to fans and sign autographs through the mail. They can include: artists, authors, video game developers, and even prominent scientists.

Can I request an autograph through email?

Sending an autograph request through email is completely possible! There are several tools and resources for doing this. Sometimes email is used to help facilitate the standard process i.e. making sure fan mail is accepted at a given address or to get permission to send oversized items. Sometimes, the whole process can be done through email. By sending a message to the signer or their representative asking for an autograph, sometimes they will simply send you one with no further action required.

How do I send a letter to a movie set, concert hall, or live event (via venue)?

Sending fan mail via venue means sending a letter to a temporary location where a celebrity will be for short periods ranging from days to months. These can include appearances on Broadway, at scheduled events, movie and TV sets, etc. You can find via venue addresses in a number of ways to include production alerts, government listings of current productions, and on social media.

Autograph Tracker Template

The autograph tracker is very easy to use! There are 8 columns to fill out for each request which will help keep you organized and prevent you from potentially losing mail or misidentifying an autograph. Below is a description of how each field should be filled out:

Name: Fill in the signer’s name
Date Sent: track the date you sent your letter (mm/dd/yyyy)
Address: The address you sent your request to
Date Received: track the date you received a response (mm/dd/yyyy)
Duration: Number of days from date sent to date received is automatically calculated.
Notes: add any notes about your particular request.
Envelope #: Write this number on your self addressed stamped envelope instead of the signer’s return address. That way, your letter can’t be returned to sender and will have to go to you. That could happen if your return envelope had insufficient postage for example.

I am an autograph collector who enjoys the hobby by reaching out to celebrities, athletes, and other public figures through fan mail. If I’m lucky, I get a response and hopefully an autograph. In February and March 2022 I got a number of interesting replies from actors, voice actors, directors and video game designers. Check out these simple steps to get started writing fan mail and learn the basics of through the mail (TTM) autograph collecting.

Through The Mail (TTM) Autographs

Stephanie Beatriz

If you are a Disney fan or have young kids, I am sure that you have seen Encanto by now. My two and four year old kids Emma and Owen love to watch and sing along to the movie. They are too young to appreciate the autograph collecting hobby, but I try to involve them in it when I can. Sometimes that means helping me with wax seals or by putting stamps on envelopes. All that work wouldn’t be fun though if they never saw the end result. To that end, I try to send a few autograph requests here and there with them in mind.

Now, I’d like to say writing to Stephanie Beatriz was all for the kids, but I watched the movie with them when it came out and just like Emma and Owen, I enjoyed the soundtrack and characters as well. So when I saw that she was on the West End doing 2;22 A Ghost Story, I felt compelled to write. I actually had a bad experience last year writing to Lily Allen who was also doing 2;22 A Ghost Story and couldn’t be bothered to reply to anyone. However, that was at another theater so I didn’t let it phase me and wrote anyway.

Just a few days before the play ended its run in the UK, Stephanie’s reply to my letter made its way across the pond and reached the US. She signed both of the extra thick archival quality index cards that I sent her and dedicated them to my kids. I appreciate the dedication, because it’s a sign that she was not only signing autographs, but taking the time to read her fan mail. To me, that’s what the hobby is all about—the interaction between you and a public figure that would likely otherwise not be possible.

Ironhead Studios

If you’ve been collecting Star Wars autographs through the mail for a long time, you’ll know that it’s the behind the scenes people that are the real bread and butter of the hobby. This is something that is true for Star Wars in particular. That’s because of how deeply devoted the fan base is to every aspect involved with the franchise and the fact that there were so many talented artisans working across a myriad of disciplines that makes the people behind the scenes of the Star Wars films so interesting to investigate and interact with. That’s been true since Star Wars was released in 1977 and continues to this day with limited series like The Book of Boba Fett.

Ironhead Studios worked behind the scenes on The Book of Boba Fett and were responsible for the creation of Fett’s suit of armor. They are an effects firm specializing in costume and creature design, headed by Jose Fernandez. Jose began his career in film in 1989 working on Gremlins with legendary sculptor Rick Baker. Baker of course worked on the original Star Wars so Fernandez’s work on The Book of Boba Fett, the newest addition to the Star Wars universe brings his career full circle.

Not only was Jose kind enough to sign the photos that I sent him, but he also took the time to have the other craftsmen at Ironhead Studios who worked on Fett’s armor sign as well. It’s an incredibly kind gesture which makes for a beautiful addition to my Star Wars autograph collection.

Léa Seydoux

This is actually the second time that Léa Seydoux has responded to my fan mail. I had sent out several autograph requests to her last year, all to different addresses. I had hoped that I would get even one, but I got very lucky to have two returned. My first response from Léa Seydoux was a personal note on the two index cards that I sent her which she also signed. It’s clear that she personally handled my request on that occasion. However, I think this latest success was more than likely handled by a secretary. While the autograph looks to be authentic, it was probably pulled off of a stack of pre-signed photos.

I am very happy to add this to my collection especially since it’s an opportunity to add a photo to go along with my index cards.

If you have a Netflix account, then you’ve probably seen their flagship show Stranger Things starring David Harbour as officer Jim Hopper. He is also known for his roles as the titular character in Hellboy (2019), the Red Guardian in Black Widow, and Dexter Tolliver in Suicide Squad. That means, he’s had roles in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and DC Extended Universe (DCEU)—two of Hollywood’s biggest franchises.

I wrote to David while he was on the set of his upcoming Christmas comedy Violent Night which will also star Beverly D’Angelo, well known for her role in another holiday film—Christmas Vacation. It was nice of David to take the time away from filming to not only sit down and read my letter, but to sign the index card that I sent him as well.

Rhys Ifans

There was disappointment after some initial excitement at getting a response from Rhys Ifans, whose recent work includes his roles as Dr. Curt Connors / The Lizard in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Grigori Rasputin in The King’s Man. Upon examining the signature that I received back from Rhys, it became clear that it was not authentic. By comparing the autograph that I had received to known examples of autographs obtained from him in person, there was no comparison between the two. Ultimately this means that Rhys had a secretary or some other third party sign and respond to fan mail in his stead.

I am a fan of Jude Law’s work in movies like Fantastic Beasts, Gattaca, and yes, Captain Marvel as well. I wrote to him via Riff Raff Film Productions, which is one of the production companies involved in the upcoming Showtime series “The Auteur”. After only about a month, I received a very fast response from Jude, especially considering that my letter had to go to the UK and back to the US in that time. He signed and dedicated both of the index cards that I sent him.

Bob Newhart

Bob Newhart 1

Bob Newhart sits at the number five position on the list of Top 30 celebrities that are best at responding to fan mail and signing autographs TTM. I’ve been collecting autographs for a long time, but didn’t take the opportunity to write to him until recently. Around last Christmas fresh from watching Elf, I sent Bob two photos of his character Papa Elf from the film. A little over two months later, bob returned both of the photos to me signed and dedicated.

Richard J. Stachowiak

Richard J. Stachowiak enlisted in the Navy right at the end of World War II. While he didn’t have to face the horrors of battle, he was put in harm’s way as a subject in Operation Crossroads. This military operation was the second test detonation of an atomic weapon and was meant to gauge the effect of a nuke on ships. Richard and his shipmates were anchored five miles away from the blast site with their backs turned to the bomb.

Richard survives to this day, but the bomb left its mark, on him as years later he developed skin cancer for exposure to the bomb’s radiation. He replied to my letter after two years, including a photo of him and his shipmates who all lived to tell the tale of that fateful day.

Adassa (Encanto’s Dolores)

I had the opportunity to meet Adassa in person when she appeared in San Antonio. She plays Dolores in Encanto and dressed the part at her signing. She made so many young fans happy with her appearance, renditions of songs from the film, and her wonderfully cheery personality. It was an absolute pleasure for my family to meet her.

Vic Ruggiero & Lauren Napier

When seeing Vic Ruggiero and Lauren Napier who perform together as The Witch and The Burro, I picked up a tour poster and had them sign it for me. I’ve known Vic for nearly 18 years now thanks to his better known work with his band The Slackers. Whether it’s him playing solo, with another musician, or in a band, it’s always a good time hearing him play and I highly recommend checking them out!

Colin Skeaping

Colin-Skeaping

Colin Skeaping did stunts for Mark Hamill, doubling as Luke Skywalker in all three original Star Wars films. He had various cameo roles in the original trilogy as well as parts in the James Bond franchise among others. He signed both of the index cards that I sent him in about 3 months time.

Sasha Alex Sloan

Sasha Sloan

I received an interesting preprint signature from singer Sasha Sloan. It’s a copy of a handwritten letter written by Sasha promoting her new album “I Blame The World”. I suppose I was on her mailing list after buying a signed CD from her shop last year. Despite it not being an authentic autograph, it was a pretty novel idea!

Matt Stewart – MTG artist

Matt Stewart signed MTG cards (Magic the Gathering)

I contacted Magic the Gathering (MTG) artist Matt Stewart via email before sending my cards to him. I found out that he only charges $1 per signature or $5 for shadow signatures. A shadow signature is basically a layered signature where a signer signs once in one color and then again on top of their signature with another color creating a shadow effect. As you have to wait for ink to dry before applying the second signature, it takes time and therefore costs more. If your interested in getting your Magic cards signed, be sure to check the guide.

Toshishiro Obata

Toshishiro Obata

Toshishiro Obata came back with a quick response to my fan mail. Obata played the villain Tatsu in the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film and the subsequent The Secret of the Ooze. He signed two of the three TMNT trading cards that I sent him.

Alessia Cara

Alessia Cara signed CD

This signed insert from Alessia Cara’s 2021 album In The Meantime came from her online store. She sold these for about $20 each and signed them in big bold writing. It’s a great looking autograph that will really show well if put on a wall for display.

Stewart Copeland

Stewart Copeland is best known as the drummer from the 80’s English rock band The Police. Now I’m definitely a fan of the band, but that’s not why I wrote to him. Copeland is also known as a producer, having worked on many film and video game soundtracks. In particular he worked on the Spyro the Dragon soundtracks from 1998 to 2002 and again in 2018.
