where do I go here thank you it just a
0:04
pleasure to be here in Dallas first and
0:07
foremost want to thank Fan Expo for
0:08
having me uh for all the the work that
0:11
they do in front of and behind and
0:13
things that you guys don't see which
0:14
allows us they allow us to come and
0:17
spend time with you so round of applause
0:19
for the people who work here
0:22
who take their time and uh their
0:25
dedication to putting all this together
0:27
this takes a lot of work so thank you
0:28
and thank you to you guys for coming out
0:30
and spending some time with me whether
0:32
it was in the autograph line or doing
0:34
pictures
0:36
being here i'm sorry that we are a
0:38
little bit behind on this panel i wish
0:40
we could open it up even more um but
0:43
sometimes that's just the way it is when
0:45
you get caught with other people and
0:47
things that are out there with pictures
0:48
and and whatnot so from the bottom of my
0:51
heart I'm glad I'm so happy to be here
0:52
in Dallas too
0:56
okay so we're going to do roundabout
0:59
question yeah lightning round um you've
1:01
had the unique experience of being on
1:04
series that have gone for multiple
1:06
seasons and that is so rare in your
1:08
industry how do you keep your
1:10
performance fresh and how do you keep
1:12
the character alive you you it's through
1:15
repetition and I think when you get
1:16
through the repetitions of character and
1:18
you continuously work on the character
1:21
with an acting coach that I have in Ivon
1:23
Chvik who is we were very dedicated to
1:26
the types of characters that we that I
1:28
was playing and even especially with
1:29
Emily we would go together and we would
1:31
work on the scripts we would decide the
1:34
moments and the subtext that we would
1:35
use for each moment of every episode and
1:39
um that allowed us to kind of
1:41
continuously push the envelope there um
1:44
the SEAL team was the same it was a very
1:46
constant grind uh the guys were great
1:49
that were on it we had uh some real
1:52
operators dev crew people that uh you
1:55
know gave their time and were on the
1:56
show and we played it in a very
1:58
authentic way so for me I have to
2:00
continuously just keep the reps going
2:02
and keep grinding and don't just sit
2:03
back and say "Oh well I've done I've
2:06
gotten through season 1 or I've gotten
2:07
through an episode and I can just phone
2:09
it in." I would be doing as a disservice
2:11
to the fans um it's really what you guys
2:14
see what we put out there that is
2:16
exciting for me so you have to
2:18
constantly work at it um however that is
2:20
as an actor and how you want to attack
2:22
it that's great you're So you've played
2:25
so many iconic characters is there
2:27
anything from your resume that you feel
2:29
is underrated
2:31
oh well you know I've been fortunate to
2:33
do some really great stuff i mean
2:35
obviously from what you've seen um The
2:37
Family Guy was pretty hilarious came out
2:40
you know that was kind of hilarious did
2:42
a film called These Girls which I really
2:44
loved uh I thought that was a really
2:45
smart independent film we shot i went to
2:48
the Toronto Film Festival um you know
2:50
The Crow was crazy i mean we had crazy
2:53
time shooting that eddie Furlong you
2:56
know Dennis Hopper you know things that
2:58
you have the people that you work you
3:00
know did a film with Alan which
3:02
was great it was his film it's called
3:03
Ghost Hunter and it wasn't originally
3:05
called Ghost Hunter but ended up being
3:06
called Ghost Hunter another story but uh
3:09
you know you you take each one for what
3:12
they are and you apply your work to it
3:14
and see how it comes out so on Buffy and
3:18
Angel you play technically the same
3:20
character but he has many incarnations
3:22
we have Liam we have Angelus and we have
3:24
Angel did you find it difficult to
3:26
switch back and forth or did they each
3:28
have a unique profile you know I it's
3:30
just a flip of the script for me in my
3:32
head it's an easy compartmentalizing
3:34
thing i love playing hero characters but
3:35
yet I also like the villain aspect of it
3:37
so it's a mental kind of a switch that
3:41
goes off and you kind of find that evil
3:44
personality and angel and you have this
3:47
kind of oh shucks kind of teddy bear
3:50
kind of guy and angel and you marry them
3:52
somehow i was able to do that and you
3:54
learn your gears you learn how to shift
3:56
them was inspired by some great actors
3:58
that I admire very doubly Gary Olden um
4:02
and a professional that was very strong
4:05
for me as far as what he did on screen
4:07
and his you know his ticks and his
4:10
whatever his personality that he would
4:12
play i would you know kind of look at
4:13
that performance like "Wow he's got some
4:15
really good change up in there." So um
4:18
yeah so this weekend is Emily's first
4:21
con and Yeah
4:24
what has it been like getting to
4:26
experience this with her you know great
4:29
it's like stepping back on set i mean
4:30
really like literally it felt like we
4:32
were back in action she was telling me
4:35
what to do consistently she was telling
4:37
me where to sit where to stand what to
4:39
eat what not to eat you know have this
4:42
have that you know it's kind of like um
4:46
it's a thesaurus of words with her it's
4:49
a it's it's an aquarium full of so many
4:51
different types of fish right it is so
4:54
beautiful and so many different
4:56
personalities to her that uh it's been a
4:59
blessing to be with her here these past
5:01
few days and to sit with her and talk to
5:03
her
5:05
oh wow okay attention everybody stand up
5:07
and move to your left
5:10
okay Star Wars today i'm a fan let's go
5:13
i'm in
5:14
so unfortunately I only have time for
5:16
one more question before they're going
5:18
to tell us we don't have to go home but
5:19
we can't stay here
5:22
uh is there an actor out there that you
5:24
haven't worked with that you would like
5:25
to work with um Darth Vader
5:30
seems to be crawling down my shoulders
5:31
right now they you know you aspire to
5:34
work with people that are so embedded in
5:38
their focus and embedded in their craft
5:41
daniel B lewis is such an icon to me tom
5:44
Cruz I love you know Harrison Ford i
5:47
love um guys that really you know Tom
5:50
Hardy are intense and have a heroic kind
5:53
of sensibility to their personalities
5:55
and that are strong and the
5:57
rebels are coming
6:01
david thank you so much thank you guys
6:04
this is the quickest panel I've ever
6:06
done but I thank you all thank you
6:07
people in Texas thank you Dallas i
6:10
appreciate every single one of you from
6:12
my patches to all the things that you
6:14
give me so I really appreciate you thank
