Disney+ Home Entertainment on Fantastic Four: Bonus Features, Easter Eggs SpaceCon 2025
Nov 11, 2025
Chris Bess (Director of Home & Entertainment at Disney+) and Mitch Messinger sit down to break down the Fantastic Four home release and streaming rollout.
What you’ll hear:
Bonus features: gag/blooper reel, deleted scenes, production-design and location featurettes, costume/FX breakdowns, and crew interviews.
Easter eggs: why this one begs for pause-and-rewind at home—plus a nod to Stan Lee & Jack Kirby.
Physical media: SteelBook options (including retailer exclusives like a pop-up-style package and a magnetic cover), and why Disney is leaning into collectible editions.
Disney+ timing: Fantastic Four: First Steps hits Disney+ on November 5.
What sets it apart: the family dynamic the filmmakers aimed to capture, and a look at Mole Man world-building in the extras.
Industry perspective: theatrical vs. streaming, owning digital/Blu-ray, and how home releases are built for rewatch value.

We Herby fans out there,
0:03
I had to grab that Herby popcorn bucket,
0:05
I must say. And I will tell you, um,
0:07
probably the worst thing to ever be
0:08
invented are awesome car buckets.
0:12
Look at the wife over there. That was a
0:14
new addiction that happened the last
0:17
couple years. That was nothing like
0:18
really there about awesome popcorn
0:20
buckets. But the Herby one was really
0:22
cool because it had popcorn, room for
0:24
your candy, and a drink. I mean, that is
0:26
the popcorn bucket. Did y'all grab any
0:29
of the copper buckets from the from the
0:30
foot by chance?
0:32
I did not. Uh there are some people that
0:35
have the Galactis head.
0:36
I do have that one too uh at the office.
0:39
Uh yeah, it's a whole it it's a whole
0:42
thing now. I even see them for sale on
0:46
at Cons on the show floor. So uh yeah,
0:48
it's a it's a popular collector item.
0:51
They got me good with those, I must say,
0:52
cuz I did get to class this one. I
0:54
didn't want to say how many of the costs
0:55
were fantastic, but because it had so
0:57
many great ones. Uh, you you you teased
1:00
a little bit about some of the behind
1:01
the scene goodies that are on, you know,
1:03
the the digital aspect and also the
1:05
physical media release. Are there also
1:07
some Easter eggs that we haven't seen?
1:08
Maybe some delete scenes, anything you
1:10
can tease, but I don't want to give
1:11
anything away per se, but uh what are
1:13
some other bonus features we can expect?
1:16
Well, there's there's a lot actually.
1:18
There's a gag blooper reel, so you can
1:21
see them having fun on set. There are
1:23
several deleted scenes. So, these are
1:25
scenes obviously that didn't make it
1:27
into the movie. There are featurettes on
1:31
uh the production design, the location
1:34
for um where all the the shooting took
1:36
place, um how they made the film, a
1:38
bunch of interviews with um the uh uh
1:43
the crew and and uh production folks
1:46
behind the scenes who made the movie.
1:48
So, if you're a big cophile and just
1:50
wonder how they did the costumes or how
1:53
they made those sets or how they created
1:56
those special effects, it's all there.
1:58
Uh, never before seen bonus extras on
2:01
the digital and Blu-ray, which is out
2:03
now. I'd also uh watch the movie itself
2:07
because there are a lot of Easter eggs,
2:08
a nod to the MCU in, you know, when the
2:11
spaceship takes off from Earth into
2:14
space. you know, you have to be have a
2:16
watchful eye uh to find those Easter
2:18
eggs. And given that you can watch it at
2:20
home digitally or on Disney Plus, you
2:22
can pause and rewind over and over again
2:25
so you can actually find those uh great
2:27
Easter eggs in the film. That's true.
2:28
That's why I like the ability when we
2:30
can get them on digital pause and and
2:33
point at it and be that that meme of
2:34
Leonardo just pointing at the screen
2:36
like that and calling things out. Y'all
2:38
have a favorite Easter egg from the
2:40
film? Obviously, I must say I got to
2:42
shout out the the Stanley Jack Kirby,
2:44
you know, that thing was that was a
2:45
brilliant brilliant Easter egg and a
2:47
great way to pay our respects to the
2:48
great that created all that. It's hard
2:51
to pick one. I think there's like
2:53
there's so many that there are so much
2:54
fun to And again, if you know this
2:56
universe and you know this franchise, uh
2:58
there there are plenty to be be found.
3:02
Yeah, I I would have a hard time
3:03
thinking.
3:04
That's a lot. Yeah, I like asking who my
3:06
favorite child is.
3:07
Is it that hard?
3:12
Uh, but y'all brought some surprises for
3:14
us. But before we roll into the special
3:16
sneak peek, let's have some fun with
3:17
some cosmic questions that brought up
3:19
for that. So, let's start with a cosmic
3:22
what if? If you could join the Fantastic
3:24
4 for one space mission, what role would
3:27
you take? The scientist, the pilot, the
3:31
comedian, or the one that just pushes
3:32
all the buttons?
3:36
Well, pushing all the buttons sounds a
3:39
lot of fun. Uh, I would say that one's
3:41
actually easy. I would be the scientist
3:43
just because I studied uh astronomy in
3:46
college. So, um, actually this movie
3:49
about four astronauts and um, and my
3:53
wife would probably joke that there's a
3:55
little bit of Reed Richards in me
3:56
anyway. So, I would definitely be the
3:58
scientist.
4:00
I would say I'm a comedian. I like I
4:01
like making people laugh. I like uh you
4:04
know making a joke especially uh this
4:06
time uh in the world we need a little
4:08
more laughter and so uh I definitely
4:10
would be the comedian of the group.
4:12
Well, do you have a space, you know, a
4:13
space dad joke maybe on
4:17
I like a lot of kids. Yeah, we have a
4:19
lot of different dad. So, we we have a
4:21
lot of dad jokes. I don't know if
4:22
they're good space.
4:23
Well, personally the stronger where is
4:25
this earth located that we are
4:26
introduced to. Do you have it on your
4:28
map at home where this earth is located?
4:31
No. No. But I'm hoping that we'll see
4:33
more of it and figure more of it out as
4:36
we get into like the films next year.
4:39
So, was there a moment in this film that
4:42
kind of felt you like remind you of the
4:44
kid dreaming of the stars? Cuz there's a
4:46
lot of great moments in that film. I
4:47
just just know just wanted to know
4:49
what's out there as well. Well, as a
4:52
kid, I always wanted to be in space
4:55
being an astronomer astronaut. That was
4:57
uh always my dream. So, uh, yeah, there
5:00
are scenes where they, uh, take off in
5:03
very like future retro, uh, looking
5:07
rocket ship that takes them into space.
5:09
So, that whole moment like brought me,
5:11
you know, kind of back to a kid like
5:13
dreaming of going into space. Sure. I
5:16
think that hearkens it to when I was a
5:18
kid and old enough to remember when the
5:20
first uh, space shuttle went up in 1981.
5:22
So, I felt like, oh, that that my
5:24
11-year-old self was uh he's a school
5:27
boy, so to speak.
5:29
Uh the world in this Fantastic 4 film is
5:31
fabulous. I I think it captured
5:32
everything of the essence of that space
5:34
race in the 1960s in the retro
5:35
futuristic aspect. Um Reed Richards is
5:39
known for overthinking everything.
5:42
I want to ask, was there something
5:43
you've overengineered in real life? Like
5:46
a coffee setup, a spreadsheet
5:48
spreadsheet, or even a Comic Con packing
5:51
list? It has to be professional or
5:53
personal to
5:54
anything. You over engineer.
5:56
Fair enough. I think uh I'm just very
5:58
OCD at home. So I think I overthink
6:00
everything at home to make sure that
6:01
everything has its place so it's easy to
6:04
find. Whether it's food in the
6:05
refrigerator or whether it's you know
6:08
medicine in the medicine cabinet, I just
6:10
have to everything in order. That is
6:12
just the way my brain works.
6:15
Everybody here that we've had the
6:16
pleasure of working with, including our
6:18
great uh production team that built our
6:20
booth, would say, "I overthink
6:22
everything. Everything. Email, what I'm
6:26
wearing, all of it." Uh it's I can't
6:30
help it. Truly, they're real life
6:32
Richard right here on stage.
6:35
Call him Richard now.
6:37
Uh yeah, thanks for giving us a little
6:39
behind the scenes of y'all's personal
6:40
lives here. But I think let's uh take a
6:43
look at what's in store for fans on the
6:44
Fantastic 4 first steps. Can we do that?
6:49
[Applause]
6:55
I'm going to focus. I'm going to make it
6:56
right. Rick Richards has stretching
6:59
powers.
7:01
I love the kind of metaphor for sort of
7:04
stretching himself and overextending
7:07
himself to fight and to protect.
7:11
I've detected her energy signature where
7:13
the planet used to be. So are you saying
7:15
that this hero is still with Galactic?
7:18
Then they can do what she says they can
7:20
do.
7:23
Stepping into it, I know that Evan,
7:25
Vanessa, and Joe are three of the best
7:27
talents that are working today. Who
7:29
knows if we're along I already done the
7:32
movie with Joseph. I can't get rid of
7:34
him. Eden and I come from similar kind
7:37
of trenches off Broadway and off off
7:40
Broadway theater. And Vanessa, she's so
7:43
lines and fierce.
7:45
It's about fighting for something bigger
7:47
than yourself. It's about connecting to
7:49
something bigger than yourself.
7:52
Vanessa Kirby is an amazing actress.
7:54
She's a person of great range as a
7:56
performer.
8:02
She has also that emotional
8:04
accessibility that Pedro has and she was
8:07
really in love with the character and
8:09
was going deep into her research about
8:12
who Sue was and could be and that was
8:15
you know just very inspiring to me as
8:17
well that
8:19
I found her to be so singular and unique
8:22
and interesting and complex and she
8:25
becomes the leader of the future
8:27
foundation which is huge global
8:29
organization that they create to to
8:32
create kind of global unity, you know,
8:34
which I think our world desperately
8:35
need. So, I find very inspiring as a
8:37
leader and it's very cool that she was
8:38
allowed to be a leader um in this
8:40
version as she has been in the comics.
8:42
She really is the natural leader and in
8:44
some ways the most powerful member of
8:46
the group. I mean, her power set is
8:48
pretty unbelievable. It started with
8:49
just invisibility and then it turned
8:50
into force fields and then offensive
8:52
weapons. She's not to be messed with.
8:57
Yeah. Yeah, that was awesome. I'm just
8:59
so enamored watching all of that and
9:02
seeing the behind the scenes stuff, you
9:03
know, with building pretty much the
9:05
streets and the buildings and the giant
9:06
blue billboard pretty much for all the
9:08
special effects going later. That's just
9:09
amazing. When you see something like
9:11
that, like does that blow your mind just
9:13
how much effort goes in, but look how
9:14
awesome it is. And they're not just
9:15
showing behind the scenes stuff like
9:17
every detail already looks good and it's
9:19
not even like what's on camera for us.
9:22
Yeah, it I mean it always blows my mind
9:24
when you see like how these films are
9:26
made and and the work and effort that
9:28
goes into it. It's it's it's pretty
9:30
spectacular.
9:32
Be proud of actually working in the
9:33
industry when I see a team effort like
9:35
this. This is a major undertaking and
9:37
I'm glad to be a small part of its
9:40
success. Yeah, it takes a lot of, you
9:41
know, a lot of people to pull something
9:43
like this off. You work with some
9:44
amazing talent, creative teams as well.
9:47
How does this film though stand out in
9:49
terms of collaboration and passion from
9:51
everything involved?
9:55
Well, this one um I think took a lot of
9:59
extra care and there was a lot of extra
10:01
attention just because it was Marvel's
10:04
first family and it was uh a franchise
10:08
that um uh and I can say it cuz I was
10:12
there at 20th Century Fox when we worked
10:14
on the first two Fantastic 4 films. Um
10:18
this one captured the family dynamic.
10:22
when you watch this and and many of you
10:25
watched it on the big screen, which is
10:26
great. That's that's the the best place
10:28
to see it. Uh you felt the the um the
10:34
familiar bonds of the family, uh their
10:39
closenit unit, and I think that that was
10:43
missing from the first two films. And so
10:45
this one, this film really captured it,
10:47
and you uh were rooting for that family.
10:51
And uh so this one just being again like
10:55
such uh an important property in the
10:58
Marvel uh universe uh I think it was
11:02
really important that it that they did
11:03
it right. And I will say critics have
11:07
loved it. It's uh you know it's it's
11:09
certified fresh Rotten Tomatoes and
11:11
audiences have loved it. It's like over
11:13
90% on their um audience score. So uh
11:17
yeah it's it's it's been very very well
11:19
received. I would say if you haven't
11:21
seen it, um, get a chance to check it
11:23
out when it comes to Disney Plus.
11:25
Yeah. This audience loves it, right?
11:30
And you did mention briefly the first
11:31
couple films. What I love is obviously,
11:33
you know, we get a very comic actor with
11:35
Galactus. We got a new Silver Surfer.
11:37
Like, that was a win-win. Anyways, what
11:39
I really love is we got Moleman in this
11:42
film like by Paul Wer. We get a mole
11:45
manual appearance. Come on.
11:48
What? there
11:51
man in the back has to shove that one
11:52
out.
11:53
And there's and that's one of the bonus
11:55
extras. It's like a whole look into like
11:58
uh creating that uh uh you know his
12:01
world underground world.
12:05
Um yeah, coming to Disney Plus, how
12:07
important has it been? Like Disney Plus
12:08
has been a great asset to the to the
12:10
Disney everything pretty much they've
12:12
done, but uh how important is to have
12:14
these films really come to Disney Plus?
12:17
Not as quickly as possible, but very
12:19
soon where they don't feel like, oh,
12:20
this is a classic now. That's not Disney
12:22
Plus, but something that's kind of fresh
12:24
out of the
12:26
Yeah. I I mean, it's uh
12:30
uh very important, man. It's uh I mean I
12:34
would say during the pandemic uh there
12:37
was a big rush to put a lot of films uh
12:40
straight onto Disney Plus and there's
12:42
still in some cases uh you know a lot of
12:45
series that go straight to Disney Plus.
12:48
You were talking about Percy Jackson
12:49
earlier for example and uh um there just
12:53
a lot of I always feel like you see some
12:55
of these really great properties and
12:57
it'd be great to see them on the big
12:58
screen still. I personally uh I always I
13:03
grew up uh going to the movies early as
13:06
a kid and fell in love with movies on
13:09
the big screen. So um that's my my my
13:12
first choice. Um but I don't see any
13:15
reason why you can't see it on the big
13:16
screen and then watch it again at home.
13:19
Uh what we try to do in home
13:20
entertainment is offer ways to uh also
13:24
collect it and own it. So, you can um
13:28
add it to your digital library or add it
13:30
to your Blu-ray collection and uh yeah,
13:33
be able to go back and watch either all
13:36
the special features or go back on
13:38
Disney Plus and watch it again with your
13:40
family. Get all your family together on
13:42
the couch and watch it. That's the best
13:44
thing. And I do love Disney Plus. I've
13:45
watched so many classics. I've watched
13:47
so many shows probably five times a lot
13:49
of gems on there, new, old, everything
13:51
in between. So, it's super fantastic.
13:53
And I love Yeah. I didn't know that
13:56
honestly that just slipped us in.
13:58
Good job.
13:59
Thank you. But also on the physical
14:01
media release side, I love all the
14:03
different designs from different uh
14:05
retailers as well. And that's another
14:07
popcorn bucket crates, right? Collecting
14:09
all variations of a physical media
14:12
release. That's another addiction as
14:14
well. Yeah. I don't know how many people
14:17
out there buy Blu-rays or collect
14:19
Blu-rays.
14:21
Okay. So, we've been trying to do a much
14:23
better job of making uh collectible uh
14:27
either Blu-ray steelbooks, which
14:29
Fantastic 4 is in, uh or uh there's a
14:33
Walmart exclusive where it actually pops
14:35
up. It's like a like a popup comic book.
14:38
Really cool. Where it's a scene from the
14:39
film and it's a popup. So, if you're
14:41
trying to do and and then Amazon also
14:43
has a a magnetic steelbook
14:47
cover so you can like remove it and
14:50
reattach it. So, it we've been trying to
14:53
do different offers uh on the Blu-ray to
14:56
make them uh a little bit more fun and
14:58
collectible. We're just taking all my
15:01
monies. That's all I say. In a good way.
15:04
In a good way. Uh, I do want to ask one
15:07
final question before I wrap things up,
15:09
but uh, if you could explore any corner
15:12
of the Marvel universe or outer space,
15:14
where would y'all go first?
15:17
[Applause]
15:19
Well, like I mentioned earlier, I was at
15:21
20th Century Fox, uh, and now at Disney.
15:24
And, uh, one of the Marvel properties
15:26
that Fox had and is now back a part of
15:29
Marvel Studios at Disney is X-Men. Oh,
15:34
yeah. I would love to see more
15:37
exploration into X-Men. Uh we recently
15:40
got to work on Deadpool and Wolverine,
15:42
which was fantastic.
15:45
Uh and I know that there will be X-Men
15:48
featured in um uh Avengers Doomsday,
15:51
which is next year. But um yeah, I would
15:55
love to see more X-Men films. I just
15:59
think there are so many great characters
16:00
there to uh to to tell stories about.
16:04
It's a big just heroin and rogue
16:06
gallery. It's amazing what's in that.
16:07
And growing up with that animated X-Men,
16:09
you know, show that really really
16:11
intrigued me of like what comics were
16:13
too before I could read. Like I was
16:14
watching that and that's just X-Men 97
16:18
Disney Plus. Amazing. Disney Plus has
16:22
been killing it with that. What about
16:23
you? Where would you want to go?
16:25
I know it's already in production. It's
16:27
with another studio, but again,
16:29
Spider-Man. I love Spider-Man so much
16:31
that I just keep him going. keep that
16:34
franchise going, keep that character
16:35
going. Uh, if that makes me happy, makes
16:38
me a 10-year-old school boy again.
16:40
No, absolutely. I'm the same way, too.
16:41
And that was an animated show of the
16:42
'90s that I actually grew up loving as
16:44
well. And the animated Disney Plus
16:46
series is fantastic. I just love the
16:48
different parts of the Marvel universe
16:50
we can go to because of film,
16:52
television, animated series, and comic
16:53
books, and everything else. It's
16:55
fantastic. And so again, I just that's
16:56
in my way.
16:59
Uh, finally, the big one uh just
17:01
announced, when can we expect to see
17:04
Fantastic 4 First Steps officially hit
17:06
Disney Plus? Yeah, we uh we announced it
17:09
here at Space Con yesterday. Uh that
17:12
Fantastic 4 First Steps will be on
17:14
Disney Plus on November 5th. Well,
17:18
that's exciting. You guys are excited to
17:19
see it at home, right? Come on your
17:21
couches, uh pick your favorite popcorn
17:24
and drinks and sit back and watch it for
17:26
the first time. Yeah. Milk Duts. And
17:28
what do you like for candy?
17:30
Oh,
17:31
uh, Sour Patch Kids.
17:33
There you go. I'll go with I don't know.
17:34
We get like a little bit of everything.
17:36
You like the Raisinets? The Raisinets is
17:38
going to go, too.
17:39
But yeah, fantastic for coming to Disney
17:41
Plus. Uh, thank you so much, Mitch and
17:43
Chris. It was fantastic to have you
17:45
here. And that was on purpose.
17:47
That was Thank you so much.
17:50
Thank you.
17:56
[Applause]
18:01
I'm going to focus on
18:04
Greek Richards has stretching powers.
18:08
I love the kind of metaphor for sort of
18:10
stretching himself and overextending
18:13
himself to find and to protect
18:17
a detective energy signature where the
18:19
planet used to be. Are you saying that
18:21
if this herald is still with
18:24
then they can do what she says they can
18:26
do
18:29
stepping into it. I know that Evan,
18:31
Vanessa, and Joe are three of the best
18:33
talents that are working today. Who
18:36
knows if we're going to go anywhere. I
18:38
already
18:41
and I come from similar kind of trenches
18:44
off Broadway and off off Broadway
18:46
theater. And Vanessa, she's so excellent
18:50
and fierce.
18:51
It's about fighting for something bigger
18:53
than yourself. It's about connecting to
18:55
something bigger than yourself.
18:58
Vanessa Curry is an amazing actress.
19:00
She's a person of great range as a
19:02
performer.
19:08
She has also that emotional
19:10
accessibility that Pedro has and she was
19:13
really in love with the character and
19:15
was going deep into her research about
19:18
who Sue was and could be and that was
19:21
you know just very inspiring to me as
19:23
well.
19:25
I found her to be so singular and unique
19:29
and interesting and complex and she
19:31
becomes the leader of the future
19:33
foundation which is a huge global
19:35
organization that they create to to
19:38
create kind of global unity you know
19:40
which I think our world desperately
19:41
needs. So I find it very inspiring and
19:43
it's very cool that she was allowed to
19:45
be a leader um in this version as she
19:47
has been in the comics. She really is
19:49
the natural leader and in some ways the
19:51
most powerful member of the group. I
19:52
mean, her power set is pretty
19:54
unbelievable. It started with just
19:55
invisibility and then it turned into
19:56
force fields and then offensive weapons.
19:58
She's not to be messed with.
