Y'all put your hands together for Joey Matthew and Andrew Lawrence. Come on
0:11
Let's go. Hey, Andy. Hello. You guys can sit wherever you like. You can sit on that table.
0:18
I don't care where you How are you guys? I'm so excited. Are those floating candles?
0:25
Oh, we had a Ule ball. Cool. on Friday. Friday evening cuz we had a couple guys from Harry Potter.
0:30
Where was I? I know, right? Where were you? That would be very exciting to have you guys here. When I was in school, I wore glasses and
0:37
had a similar haircut to Harry Potter. So, I was constantly like
0:42
Good call. I was constantly picked on called Potter. No. In sixth and seventh grade. Oh, yeah. I
0:49
enjoy I didn't mind it. He's He's kind of cool. Well, I know. I take that as compliment. Yeah, he's a man. Yeah, for sure.
0:54
Right. I love it. Well, I'm so glad you guys are joining us today. I am personally am like so stoked to be doing this interview with you guys. I'm a big
1:00
fan of all three of you. Um, how are you enjoying Corpus Christie so far? It's been great. The people are so nice
1:06
and yeah, it's a beautiful town. Thanks, bro. It's a beautiful town and uh, yeah,
1:12
we're having fun. Is it y'all's first time here? It is. I say y'all, by the way, we got a lot of y'all's here. So, it's y'all's first time.
1:17
Y'all's first time. I also heard you went to the Hooks game of Brooks Hooks and threw out the first pitch. But I'm curious, how did you guys
1:24
throw three? All three of you threw the first pitch or how did that work? Did you really? We did.
1:30
We threw one ball. All of us touched together. Our power should
1:36
have done Captain Planet. Um, where is Captain Planet? Isn't that like
1:42
Duke for like I would think so because he was I love that. I love Captain
1:47
He's a hero. Where are these brilliant things that nobody is? You would think they rebooted cuz they
1:53
rebooted practically every I'm sure it's coming. I think Super Dog is getting his own franchise now.
2:00
Probably. I can see that. Yeah, Krypto. Krypto, baby. Um, but uh yeah, it was really cool. We
2:06
we we got to throw out the first pitch. We didn't get to warm up though. You know, it's always Who's the fastest like who's the best?
2:12
Well, honestly, I think look, okay, I'm going to step in here and say that I was
2:17
I was totally joking and said that I threw the best pitch and then someone behind me said, you know, we heard that.
2:23
So, I'm just going to assume that we're going to start that. Yeah, like that. That's the truth. Everybody, even though it's pretty equal, it's
2:29
pretty equal. And then to Joe's point, we none of us have thrown baseball in 20 years. So, no, not like that. I mean, because it's
2:36
it's different. I think we all kind of threw it like you would throw it to an outfielder, you know what I because you want to get it there because it's a
2:42
little bit of a misnomer everybody understand but I mean the mount's higher than the plate so your initial reaction is to throw
2:48
down and if you throw down it actually around it in 3 seconds so you have to let it release high the problem is
2:55
unless you've warmed up and practice a little bit to zing it and get it there at the right sort of height is not easy
3:01
to do so Andy and I played it safe and we released more like a throw you what
3:07
happened with that heat on it. He put He put some heat on it. Joe and I were more like softball pitches. We went up
3:14
Y. So Matt put heat on it and then it grounded it. But ours were not any better in the on the other side. So
3:21
I got we had some time to warm up for a minute. Honestly, we could have we could have done the draft. I got you playing.
3:27
I mean, we're all athletes. No, it was we got it there. So that was
3:34
cool. But it's true. But the ballpark is so nice and everybody was so nice. It's a beautiful little park. The view of the ballpark. And by the
3:42
way, you guys are getting one of the last views of the old Harbor Bridge. It's kind of been here. Oh, yeah. It's coming down. Demolish it next month.
3:49
It's been there forever and it's old and just it was time and and really the new bridge is going to really improve the
3:55
economy here because you can get bigger ships. Lines are going to start. Well, we'll see guys. We'll see.
4:01
That'd be great actually. But that's what Yeah, that's what I heard. Yeah. local government's working on some carnival stuff.
4:07
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We just had a meeting down there. We know you guys are part of the You guys are part of the corpus Christ.
4:15
We enjoy the You guys are honorary corpus Christians. We got the key to the city. So basically
4:22
and we're going to use it. Does this work? I'm sorry. Have you seen this? Cuz I think you get into that building.
4:29
I've got a couple honorary keys. They're useless. You can't open up anything. What do you do with it? I had nothing.
4:35
It's totally symbolic. I tried and they let me into nowhere with them. I love it. All right, guys. Well, let's
4:41
get into it. I'm so excited. Again, I had some questions. You guys, any questions that you have, be thinking of them now. I'm going to do some of my own
4:47
questions and then we're going to have you guys line up right over here. Give your name and your questions. So, be thinking of that and get ready to line
4:53
up halfway through our set and I'll make sure and make that mention and get ready to do that, guys. So, the Lawrence
4:58
family definitely known for being very tight-knit. Obviously, we got the Free Brothers here with us. Uh, with family
5:04
really being at your core kind of in everything you guys do. Um, and you know, especially going from your early work to the podcast, we'll get into
5:10
that. Um, how is that really kind of family being the main center of what you guys kind of like your ethos in what you
5:16
do in your career? Well, first of all, actually, I I want to ask, do you guys fall into the typical sibling tropes of
5:22
like oldest, middle, youngest? I saw that video that you guys did that trend that was like, I'm the oldest. Of course
5:29
I'm. And then he gets to Matt. He's like, I'm I'm the middle kid. Of course. And then cuts off and then he goes right. I love that. Are you jammed
5:35
sometimes, Matt? Do you feel like kind of jammed sometimes? Is he was early on? He's made up for it.
5:41
You know, he's the jammer now. Best part is Joe didn't even let him speak, which is the best part.
5:48
Classic. He just cut him off. Uh, yes. I have the middle, but I and I
5:54
do have those middle tropes, but I I I tend to enjoy it. Um I don't have any, you know, bad feelings about
6:00
Right. No. No. No. No. Yeah. Joy's never got a football to the face. That's good. Um so
6:06
I got a Frisbee to the face. Did you? It was accidental. Who threw that? Matt. Matt. Fractured my nose.
6:12
You're kidding. Nope. So you were Jan kind of. I'm not That's Marsha. You were Marshall 50 yard away. I'll just say
6:20
and catch it. It was coming in the eye. It was at night. You could see it for 3 days.
6:25
Somebody called my name. I turned around cuz I didn't think it was coming cuz it was taking so long to get there. And then when I turned back around,
6:31
I'll never forget that. How do I do that? He saw it. I mean, so far
6:42
It's great. Well, you guys obviously again have this great relationship and you know your mother and your and your
6:48
father have been a big influence as well. So give us a little bit of background on that. Like I know there was a great story about like your mom
6:54
bringing you to New York like so talk a little bit about kind of the early days of the Lawrence family. Sure.
6:59
Andy wasn't around. He was pretty different. Pretty handy. Boring. It was just mad that
7:06
uh no you know man look I mean it's it's really you know you start at those humble beginnings. My mom is a teacher.
7:13
My dad, you know, still to this day sells literature. My mother still teaches. Um, you know, and um, yeah,
7:19
just this weird sort of inkling to be in the TV. My mom took me to picture contest, won it, went to New York,
7:24
auditioned. Um, I didn't really read because I was just barely five. So, I didn't read at the level that like you
7:29
had to learn sides and they gave me this big monologue for like a national commercial. And I, my mom didn't know if
7:35
I could memorize it, but she basically recited to me and I recited it back and went in and, you know, the agent was
7:40
like, "That's pretty cool. Send them out." And then I got the commercial and just started the steamroll that first year and one thing led to another. We
7:47
were I was auditioned for the Tonight Show and back then with Johnny Carson and Tonight Show which I know a lot of people here probably never even heard
7:52
of. But uh he would launch careers. You could come out on that thing and if you did well and had a really kind of special interview which I ended up
7:59
having, he could really change things overnight which it did. It was sort of like viral video, you know, going like viral. I mean truly viral.
8:05
Yeah. So yeah. Um and uh and then and then it just kind of snowballed from
8:10
there. You know, t TV was readily available even though Matt and I also sang and did did other things and and as
8:16
my success sort of opened up doors, you know, Matt also realized he wanted to do it and sort of jump jumped in. And then
8:22
when we had Andy, um they kept me in a cage. We did. And so
8:28
they threw out a ham on stage and they said go to work. That's right. That's right. No, it's funny. You know, we've told the story
8:34
before, but the really funny thing is when Andy was born in the hospital, my mother pulled us out of the business, which I'm so glad she did for like three
8:40
years. And I went to middle school every day, sixth, seventh, eighth grade, and it was awesome. Really great. Those are
8:45
some of the best memories of my life, actually. But, um, and we always stayed enrolled in our practice school, Matt and I did, back in Philadelphia, um,
8:51
until we officially moved in. Matt because he was young and went to high school out here. But other than that, we were or middle school, right? Ended
8:57
middle school, like seventh, seventh grade, right? Yeah. So, um, but, uh, when when Andy was born, the president
9:03
of NBC at the time, um, sent a contract, flowers and a contract to the hospital room, said, "Congratulations," and then
9:09
Senator would like to sign this one up for real. For real. At birth, I mean, hearsay.
9:14
He was kidding, but not kidding. But that's kind of, you know, born into he was born into, you know, born into that
9:21
sort of Montgomery County NBC on the official. Yeah.
9:27
So, anyway. Yeah. We started in Philadelphia, you know, and then officially moved out to California. Uh, we moved out in like 81 when I when
9:34
I right after the Tonight Show because NBC signed me to do a couple pilots and stuff, but we didn't officially move till the late '9s.
9:39
Yeah. So, so, and I I guess we'll kind of start again with with Blossom. I'd like to at least mention I loved that show. I mean,
9:45
I was fairly young when that show was on, but I still remember it resonated with me. Um, it was a bit ahead of its
9:51
time really with some of the things it tackled like, you know, single parents, divorce,
9:56
addiction. that was actually very controversial at the time on television. Um, but it had like a heart. It was very
10:02
heartwarming. Your character so lovable, obviously catapulted your career. Um, not the brightest crayon in
10:09
the box, but I will say there was definitely some moments I feel like they gave to you in
10:15
the series that were very deep and emotional depth and you did them very well and you had that nuance to it um,
10:22
and that range and I thought those was really great. I mean, so it added, of course, your you had a lot of levity in your your character. It was great to
10:27
watch. It was fun to watch, but um there was a lot of depth there, too, and I thought that was really great. So, talk about a little bit of your time at
10:33
Blossom. Can you look back on that time frame? For sure. For sure. It was great. It was great. Yeah. Um I had done a couple of
10:39
pilots in between Give Me a Break and that show and they didn't go. And then with the Boston one, it was just Yeah.
10:45
went back to the NBC, the old, you know, old school NBC and um kind of where it began. And then yeah, went in,
10:51
auditioned, did a chemistry, and uh they told me a partner, you know, so it was old school. That's awesome.
10:57
And you guys both also made appearances. Was it both of you or was it just made appearances on the show as younger
11:02
versions of yourself? Correct. Was it hard doing the wo?
11:07
It's hard. It's like a special way to do it. That's not easy. I kind of when they told me I was going to do your panel, I
11:13
swear to God, I'm not even kidding. Like when they said that, they're like, "You need to do the Lawrence panel." I was like, "Well, I can literally know if I
11:19
have allergies and stuff, which I do. I can't really I I sound like that when I do it." It's a terrible
11:25
terrible little flies from So, but uh yeah, that was that was fun.
11:30
Look, that was a great ride. I mean, you know, the the '9s were, first of all, was a great decade. I think one of the
11:36
last great decades that we've had in a while, but as a decade old co, you know, um but it was also a great time. I mean,
11:42
it was pretty amazing. Yeah, it was really fun. so much fun to have that kind of success be like 15 and
11:47
16 17 18 was really and it like holds up. I I went and revisit some of the episodes and I'm like this like holds up today like I
11:54
don't know why I I'm not sure if it's streaming anymore but I would love to see the entire season. I don't know if it is. I know that uh
12:00
yeah I don't know I don't know that I know it's it's around the world a lot of places um now but I don't know if it's
12:06
streaming here on well it's a it was a fantastic show and really was you know part of the culture really pop culture of of you know
12:13
television history and always hold place there very cool kind of several careers but definitely yours is one of them and
12:19
uh I'd like to move it over to Matt how are you hello so I'm a big fan of
12:26
like you're probably I was really slightly close to your demographic when you were doing your projects. Um, Mrs.
12:31
Dowire, guys, one of the one of probably my some of my favorite movies to this day. Um, also, I don't know if you guys
12:38
had a chance to chat with the Harry Potter guys, uh, Chris Rankin. He talked about in his interviews and I brought it
12:44
up during his panel that Mrs. Dfire is one of his like favorite films like of all time. Um, and it and I think I must
12:51
quote that film like once a week like I don't the whole time. the whole time. Like there's just so many things I love about that movie and your character
12:57
really added a lot again a lot of depth, a lot of relatable moments. Um, you
13:02
know, there was a lot of real issues was comedy was incredible. Of course, the late great Robin Williams, amazing. Um,
13:09
but her character really was a standout as well. I really felt that way. And um, I just I can't help but you know, wonder
13:15
what that was like, you know, at that time. I know you were pretty young during all of that. Um, you guys again
13:21
got over rumblings. What do you take away from that experience when you look back on it in retrospect? I know you were in the business already, but I
13:27
really do feel like that shifted your career in a real way when that happened. So, talk a little about that.
13:33
Yeah, that was um yeah, it was just an epic experience all around everybody and it was it's it's
13:39
very few times you get to experience a crew that size and all of them working
13:45
so well with everything that they do. I mean everybody at every you know uh head
13:51
of every department was just incredible talking to them and all the things I got to learn from everybody and then
13:57
obviously from Robin and from the director Chris Columbus. I mean
14:03
man I mean I've got so many incredible memories you know and uh because I like reptiles too. They they had just
14:08
finished Jurassic Park. Gosh. Have you seen the new one? I have. I have. Yeah. Have you seen the dinosaurs behind the
14:15
escalator? They have a whole I've been telling everybody about that. I forgot to mention it today. Um, behind the
14:21
escalator, they have a whole entire Jurassic Park like whole setup. I actually wrote it. It looks so stupid.
14:27
It took a video of it. Riding a little dinosaur that you can move up. You can take photos. It's really cool. I like the Jurassic. So,
14:33
yeah. Yeah. No, I was So, that was They were talking to me about it and they even gave me one of the pieces of amber
14:40
with the mosquito. So, it was super cool to get to meet all those people at the same time. And yeah, just it was just that point in your
14:46
life. I mean, I was 12, but I had, you know, you had to grow up fast when you're working. Um, especially when
14:52
you're working for pretty young. So, it's weird because I know I was young, but I wasn't really treated like a kid.
14:58
Like, you have someone, for example, like Robin Williams who he got me the job to begin with. Did he?
15:04
Yeah. He got me the job flat out. Um, the there was a big screen test and one
15:09
of the other kids was definitely in the lead when it comes to the studio and everybody what they were thinking and
15:16
for some reason Robin really he he had his he had the ones that he liked and he he made sure especially in my uh in my
15:24
audition and I got it. He did it because they were looking for this you know at that time those auditions the room was
15:29
almost as packed as this. So, and we were on a couch similar to this and Robin came in pretty much pretty much in
15:37
the Mrs. Dire get up. It was pretty close. And um at first the kids we
15:42
didn't know that it was Robin. We were waiting for Robin. She sits down and starts, you know, doing her thing and
15:49
and then um and then the director comes over and says, "We just want you to know
15:54
this is Robin when I was playing, you know, Mrs. Downfire, and he will also be your dad in this, but for the screen
16:00
test, we want him to play it." So they were like, "Wow." Yeah. Then when I queued in that it was actually Robin Williams, I was like, "Wow, that's it's
16:06
already impressive." Anyway, they were looking for this one moment in the audition scene where it's a reaction, a
16:13
physical reaction to this lady and how strong she is. And they hadn't gotten
16:19
that joke out of the other two boys that were auditioning for this this movie. So
16:24
when was my turn and I was going last. And to be honest, they they usually kind of put it like their favorite first and
16:31
then like the wild card in the middle and then like their second favorite at the end just in case, you know. So I
16:36
think I was kind of in second place is where I was kind of placing. And Rob was like, "Look, you know," and again, think
16:42
of this. I'm 12 years old and he pulls me aside in the middle of this massive screen test goes, "Listen, nobody's got
16:47
it yet and there's something that we're all looking for. If we can bring down the house at this one moment, we're
16:52
going to go and spend the next 8 months together." And I was like, "Wow, whatever." He was like, "Just go with it. React. Go." And we get back on the
17:00
couch. We sit down. And so he was like, "Let's get up." It was like the soccer
17:05
scene that made it into the montage where we're playing soccer, you know, in the in the park there. That was a whole scene that that they had just taken out
17:12
of the movie. So that scene was the audition scene. And so he's like, "Okay." They he had a little ball and
17:17
we're doing it. And he comes over and he like he's like, "You body checks me?" And while he body checks me, he gives me
17:23
the hardest purple nerp. And I let out this scream and I fall around and the
17:29
house just lost it. Everybody starts laughing. Everybody
17:34
starts going crazy. And we finish out the scene and Robin with this little twinkle in his eye just There you go.
17:40
There you go. I don't want to cry. That's so cool. I love that. I can see his eyes even to this day. He
17:45
had this magical twinkle in his eyes. He always feels he just has that especially when he lights up about
17:52
something. And he was very, you know, he was very passionate about us three kids from that point on. And you know,
17:57
how cool that he saw something in you and even like knowing you guys, all three of you, that he, you know, he felt
18:03
something in a connection. Yeah, he did. He had a real good connection with Matt. Yeah. He let me in on these crazy things that I'm now thinking like I don't know
18:09
if I maybe I guess if I met a kid and I was like I saw a part of myself in him, maybe I would. But I have yet to meet a
18:16
child where I would open up to my other side as well because he brought me into the
18:21
the bad sides of the entertainment industry, you know, substance abuse and what it can do to your brain and and he
18:28
brought me into his, you know, how his life is really great or really bad. And
18:34
that's just it's wild to think at 12, but I I guess I just assumed I was more adult than I was.
18:40
Well, I mean, I think also that's natural being the fact that you guys kind of all grew up in the you know that you matured very quickly and kind of our
18:47
adult situations very quickly. But I think also I feel like that that's really great that he gave you that and
18:52
and looking back and knowing that you know he's no longer with us and you look back and think man I was a part of you
18:59
know I got to know him. I worked with him and that's really special. You're part of a very small group of people that got to do that.
19:04
Yeah, for sure. For sure. I feel totally blessed to have that experience. Very cool. Wow. That's awesome. I love it. Um, Andy, uh, I know you had a lot
19:13
of success with Recess, TJ. How was that experience stepping into
19:18
that role? You guys remember Recess? Awesome. So fun. Yeah, I filmed it. Uh,
19:24
again, when I was in elementary, I had some really good friends um that have carried on through my adult life from
19:30
elementary school. But because I was in and out of school so much, working and then actually going to a real school,
19:36
um, it wasn't always easy to make friends, right? Hence the Harry Potter. Uh I also have a scar on my forehead. So
19:42
that's anyway. But uh being able to go to school and then after school I would go to the recording booth pretty close
19:49
to where I went to school and I would get to hang out with a whole bunch of friends uh of the cast recess. Like we really
19:55
were we really were butts. Uh especially for those 5 years that we did that show. So um it was really fun. It was like a
20:01
great time. I was in fifth grade and like I got to go to school and then get to go do recess. It was so cool. Right. Your job is recess.
20:07
It was awesome. It was really fun. That's really cool. I love that. And that was a big part again of a lot of our grow, you know, growing up and being
20:13
a part of that. Um, very cool. And I kind of I always talk to we talked to a lot of voiceover actors here and I was
20:19
talking to even Ron Pearlman yesterday. He does a lot of versh voice work. Um, it's challenging. People sometimes have
20:24
this perception of like, oh, if it's not live action, it's not as ch that's I think personally I think that's BS.
20:30
There's a lot that goes into it and you your acting chops have to come through just based on your vocals. There's
20:35
nothing visual that you can add to that. Um, so talk a little bit about the difference maybe between doing voice work as opposed to live action.
20:41
Yeah, pros and cons for sure. Um, you know, one of the things that I think it's it for me it's a little less
20:47
stressful because physically I there's, you know, there's pressure on on as an actor when you're always being looked at
20:52
there's a pressure whatever it is a certain way or perform a certain way or um execute a certain way. So, for me,
20:59
not having to worry about the physicality uh is a little bit of a relief because I can show up in sweatpants and I can be comfortable
21:05
working from home. Totally. It's it's pretty awesome. Uh and I love animation and stuff, so I'm I love that. Um but at the same point in
21:11
time, to your point, uh you know, you have to make sure that tonally you're executing and hitting a a vein that uh
21:17
you're supposed to be. It's easy to go too big and and sound stupid or to not convey enough emotions uh because again,
21:23
you're fully dependent on your voice. So, pros and cons. Very cool. Well, I'm going to kick it really quickly back to
21:30
Matt real fast, just because I'm a huge Boy Meets World fan, too. So, I'm wearing a I heart Joey shirt because
21:35
Joey was my first love when I was growing up. Um, Matt became my second though, not just because of Mrs.
21:41
Downfire, but I was a massive Boy Meets World fan. I watched every single episode. Um, but I do know that you were
21:47
obviously part of a new wave of cast members that came in. Um, what was that
21:52
with I It's so weird. And this was before I even knew I was going to do this panel. I ran into anytime I see any
21:59
of the reruns, I said, it's one of those where I'm like, "Oh, I'm watching this. I'm just gonna, you know, it's very, you know, insulting for me." And um it was
22:05
an episode where there was tension between the core the core four, the core five or something, but and then the kind
22:11
of the three new cast members as like we don't feel a part of you guys. We're not, you know, we don't have the history
22:16
you guys have. We feel like we're on the outside a little bit. How much of that was reflected in real life? Did you feel
22:21
that way a little bit coming into casting together? I think like four years at that point. Um, and there was
22:26
some conflict. We've seen it on some websites about there was some tensions and some dramas sometimes in the past,
22:33
but um, you were wellreceived for your role, but I'm just very curious to see what that experience was like.
22:38
Yeah. Yeah. There I mean, yeah, it's always going to be a little bumpy when uh, you're thrown into a family that is
22:45
a really tight-knit family already. And uh and I'm so funny and recently now
22:51
that people have been sort of asking these questions and reflecting back on Boy Meets World, they didn't know either
22:57
that I was joining the cast. And I found that out only almost two decades later when these questions finally have been
23:03
starting to be as a podcast, wasn't it? Or something. Yeah. They they didn't know either. I
23:09
literally they're like, "Who are these new characters when they get the script from the table?" And then I walked
23:14
through the door. Yeah. So they had no clue either. And um and you know I also on a personal note I
23:22
had a little bit of a different style uh and cadence when it came to the sitcom
23:27
you know approach. I I had learned it pretty much through Joe. I mean that was
23:32
my kind of sitcom learning was you know the shows he had been on or working on
23:38
the shows or literally directly working with him. So that was my cadence merely sharing a room.
23:43
He did share a bedroom too. So I was That's true. I I knew where we were going with that.
23:49
I share a room. Yes. I was 16. You believe that? Yes, we did. We did. So um bunk beds.
23:56
Yeah. So you love it. Oh yeah. Yeah. Blossom.
24:02
My dude season. I wish one of my parents. Like I would even hear that you guys
24:08
would like skip going out cuz I mean obviously you're in the industry. There's probably so many opportunities to go have fun party or do fun things
24:13
and you're like, "Oh, should I go home and like with my family and go home, cook dinner?" Yeah. And I'm so glad you
24:20
made those choices because we, you know, we don't have our grandparents with us anymore and they moved in with us and that's what was so special. We had like,
24:26
you know, dinner for 9 every night. Awesome. It was incredible. You know, those are such incredible memories. Now,
24:32
I'm so glad we did choose them. Me, too. And it it carried even through to even on this trip. We were talking
24:37
about we had so much FOMO cuz we didn't go check out the aquarium last night. We didn't go to the shift. We literally sat in the hotel room with each other and
24:43
ate some food and just true. But we But those were great. Those are great memories, man. The best. Truly
24:51
the best. Oh, I totally got off to what that was like. Yes. It was a little bumpy. It was
24:57
It was a little bumpy. I didn't have that I didn't have their cadence. So, the first uh run through network run
25:02
through we did, I got like hammered with all the notes. I mean, literally there were no notes to anybody else in the
25:08
show because they had been doing it for 4 years. So, I had like the hourong note session. I had to sit there in front of
25:15
123 people that I just met, all the cast and take basically my entire performance
25:21
apart and show me what I needed to do to to stay on the show. And uh so that you
25:29
know was for me I'm I'm again I'm glad I had my family cuz I after that I didn't obviously let anybody know how
25:36
demoralized that was. But after that I went outside and I was like I don't know maybe I'm not coming back tomorrow. Maybe this is not for me. Maybe you know
25:44
and again I had you know a great support system. My family and they were like no no no keep just see it through. Keep
25:50
going. Keep you know calm down. It's not a big deal. and and then you know by week three it was a totally different
25:56
experience and we all started to click and then yeah they're like they're like my cousins. I love that. Yeah. I think you even made
26:03
an appearance on Romance World a lot of the cast. Yeah. Absolutely. For sure. When they happen to do that it's like your family
26:08
going hey would you want to try it again? One more for the Gibberger. You know that's what it was.
26:14
I love that. That's awesome. So I uh I definitely want to get into the podcast.
26:19
So we I know you've all worked together on like and subscribe. Uh you all worked
26:25
together on Brotherly Love, the show Brotherly Love. You guys work together, which is really cool.
26:30
Um and now on the Brotherly Love podcast, which by the way, if you have
26:35
not checked out the Brotherly Love podcast, What are you doing with your life? It launched, I think, in 2023. You
26:41
guys and get this, it currently holds a 4.6 out of five rating on Apple Podcast and
26:47
Spotify. And I And you can check out Yes. And you can check it on YouTube. You can check out clips on their
26:53
socials. But I want to read something about they talk about your authentic sibling chemistry. And I I grabbed this
26:59
quote from an article I read. It says, "Their natural banter and genuine care for each other brings a refreshing
27:04
sincerity unmatched by typical celebrity podcast. Listeners constantly praising
27:10
brothers, heartwarming humor, and unbreakable sibling bonds, making it a top rated show in podcast rankings. And
27:17
it just seems like you guys just have a blast on it. I enjoy listening to it. Um, talk about your experience. What have been some of your favorite guests?
27:23
Is there a guest that you haven't had on the show that you want on the show? Well, we we hardly had any guests.
27:29
There's so many guests. The list is so large. You know, we really started not knowing really what we were doing, right? Cuz we honestly I haven't really
27:35
listened to podcasts at all. And I really don't I mean I'm Matt but
27:40
but honestly I mean I think there just in the last few years they super exploded. But before then it was kind of like people would listen or they
27:47
wouldn't listen. It wasn't like TV even though they're becoming more and more like TV. People would listen, they wouldn't really watch, you know, and
27:52
more and more people are watching now. I watched most of it like I heard some of them like just audio but I like actually wouldn't watch
27:57
and more and more people are doing that and and it's I think and we this is crazy cuz more people watched ours
28:03
initially two years ago people were like whoa what's going on and now the whole industry is shifting to more watching than even listening. You you're
28:10
listening as you watch. Amy Polar's doing one herself also that's and people are watching her. She's kind of late to
28:16
the game she says, but I mean it's really a cool thing to see because it gives you guys an insight into who they are as people. You know, you love their
28:22
work and you follow their, you know, uh, you know, all their projects that they're doing constantly, but to see the
28:27
real like who your personality is, who you are. And in your case, what makes it unique with you is the connection you
28:33
guys have. And I mean, God, it's just really cool to watch that. The banter, the whole thing is it's a it's a special
28:39
podcast. It really does set you guys apart and everything. Well, I appreciate that. Like I said, like and subscribe on YouTube. We're
28:45
actually taking it on the road, too. We are. Yeah. We're taking the road, right? Yeah.
28:50
Yeah. We're doing it. We're doing two nights uh live at the Strat. You know, the Strat Hotel in Vegas,
28:58
man. All right. We're doing it uh um August
29:03
15th or 16. August 15. I got you. Yeah. And then it's the beginning of like random dates
29:08
around the country as we take the pot on tour. So we have a date back in Foxwoods in Connecticut. We're going to
29:14
Minneapolis. We have a date in Orlando, Florida. Um so it's just uh just the beginning. Just the beginning. Maybe next year will
29:20
be a lot more we think. So it's uh I don't know. It's crazy cuz we only literally started it cuz we didn't know what was going to happen during co and
29:27
you know coming out of co we were like where is this world going? So we sort of started this thing and it was literally
29:32
just dinner table conversation. We didn't really know what we were doing. We never had any themes. We've never really done anything other than just say
29:37
no, no, let's sit down like what do we go out to eat? Let's see what happens.
29:43
And it's grown from there. So the guests we got on all make sense. They're all either friends or people that we worked
29:48
with. It's not, you know, very few people have come on that we that we haven't known. Um we're getting into
29:54
that now because things were interested in you know whether it's sciences for math or you know music and you know or
29:59
whether it's you know health and fitness uh which we're all into. um you know these things are happening as we speak
30:06
and the show continues to evolve which is what's so cool because with a podcast
30:11
it can evolve you know it's it's not like a TV show even those evolve but they're more structured there is so
30:17
little structure with a podcast they can really turn into so many different things and and I feel like every week we
30:23
sort of find something new for me what's the coolest part about it is that it's been received so well and that like and that and that it means so
30:29
much to us to know that we've you know impacted people's lives growing up and that you you know, uh the family bond is
30:35
something that maybe people want to emulate or they appreciate and that means so much to us. And then the fact that the support was out
30:42
exactly and then Yeah. for us to keep going with this podcast, you know, like that's awesome. And the fact that we're going to keep it going and and it's just
30:49
it means a lot. Yeah, it does. So, I can't see where it go I can't wait to see where it goes going and growing and
30:54
we'll see what see what happens. Like and subscribe. Like and subscribe. Uh who do you want the show? Who's like one that
30:59
Tom Cruz? Yeah, I love it. Let's go. I mean, you know, you all want to eat popcorn with tough
31:05
and uh No, I you know, honestly, I don't know. It'd be it'd be cool to have uh I mean, it'd be cool to have certain idols
31:11
that you've grown up like Andy said, you know, um I'd love to have some basketball players on, some athletes
31:17
guy. Oh my gosh. You know, ever. I'd be amazing. He's going to be contributing again for NBC Sports. You know, the NBA
31:23
is going back to NBC, which is if anybody grew up in the 90s, it was the NBA on NBC.
31:30
D back when it was a real game, you know, before they just hooked up three-pointers from half court, you
31:36
know, actually had to play some actual basketball uh and flops. Yeah.
31:41
Uh but um so that'll be cool. But somebody like that would be amazing. You know, certain directors that we've always
31:47
be so honestly anybody
31:53
that would be cool. That would be cool, you know. Um anyway, but I think Brad Pitt
31:58
on his F1. Yeah, you know, you never know though. I mean, it's really interesting how how people
32:05
are, you know, becoming more and more aware of the show. So, guys, we're going to start lining up for your questions. We're going to get short
32:10
on time soon. So, be sure to line up. Get ready to do these and I'll be opening up to questions here. So, let's go and line up on this right behind you
32:17
right here. Um, so real quick before we get into I'm going to wait I'm giving them time to line up there. Um, on that
32:23
note, a little bit about some of the different things that you guys have done on the podcast. Music has been a big part of that. music has also been a huge
32:28
part of all your lives. Um I remember listening to Oh my gosh, Joey. I'm like again my Joey shirt is
32:34
like show right now. But um love love Stay Forever Stay Forever was the champ
32:39
for me. I loved that song so much. So very talented. Um and then of course you guys too
32:47
I just heard it. Yeah. I was going to say two on the way here just to get into the vibe. Yes. I want to stay
32:55
ever with you. My closet heart
33:02
so close to mine. Stay forever with you.
33:12
So I just stay forever with you.
33:21
died. Die died. So, I'm a singer and so I take you to Really?
33:26
I do a local band here. No way. Well, you know, we're making Joe uh dust off the old cobwebs for the Vegas show.
33:32
I shouldn't be releasing that many of secrets, but he will be singing a few of his own. Oh my god.
33:37
Live. We're doing like a full show. It's not going to just be the pot up
33:43
there. No musical numbers and we're going to make them too much. Too much.
33:49
Um, I got to tell you, I caught uh the episode of the podcast where you sang Stand by Me with your dad.
33:56
Oh, yeah. And I got emotional watching it. It was a beautiful moment. I felt again
34:02
that's what the podcast allows you guys to do is have these like sporadic moments that you're nobody's expecting. And I I just happened I was watching
34:08
that one and then I saw you guys break out. You can tell it was just unplanned. They just started doing it. the big inspiration, right? His music, hometown,
34:14
all that. My mom and dad both sing really well. My dad, and we've said this before, I mean, my dad's 75 now, but he looks amazing.
34:21
But he he literally when he was Matt's body was Andy. I'm telling you, one of
34:26
the best male voices you've ever heard. Doesn't make sense.
34:34
You know, this is a muscle as you know. Like I don't sing as much now. And and and you know, they're not as good as
34:40
they used to be. I mean, it's just the way it works. It's a muscle. You have to train to keep it going. And the older you get, the elasticity in the muscle,
34:52
So, at 75, you're just not singing like you did at 45, it's not happening. Even if you train every day, it's not
34:58
happening, right? My my dad when he was my age and that's I mean the guy literally Steve Perry Steve Winwood
35:08
had my temptations the proud even just I know me.
35:18
Yeah. I'll tell you right now my dad has a way better voice than me. Way better. Truly. Yes.
35:23
And and I want to at least make a quick before we get to the question. This guy here. So, I got I'll be very
35:29
honest with you. I had not listened to your music before I started deep diving and doing more research on you guys. And
35:35
I'm a huge fan of yours now, Andy. If you guys go check out I'm being serious, go to Spotify and check out Andy
35:41
Lawrence and his musicality. It's very It's more kind of what I'm into like the indie style. Like it has just so many
35:46
elements. There's jazz elements and horns and like saxophone and like like EDM stuff. I mean, I mean, it's all just kind of synthesized like it is so good,
35:54
guys. Go check it out. Um, so you guys just it's just really impressive to see the range. Andy and Matt and I say it all the time
36:01
when Andy first started working on music. I mean, and he he Andy's made so many amazing songs that you guys will
36:07
probably never hear, unfortunately. Maybe you will, but Andy's songs, Andy was a perfectionist to a fault. He never
36:14
would release the songs. So, he would just keep remixing and remixing. I know I for years be like, "Release the dance.
36:22
It's so good. I can't I need another polish. And he would just be this weird
36:27
artist that would create his paintings and never show anybody. Andy Matt and I
36:32
said, I'm telling you something right now. 15 years ago, Andy was he was on
36:37
his way to being the next John Mayer. Dave Matthews, I'm telling you, he just never released anything.
36:42
So good. And I feel the John here a little bit. Like I Yeah, it's so good. So maybe he will one
36:49
day. We'll see. Maybe. You have to Andy. is ridiculous. I don't know why you remember that. Anyway, um let's go ahead and start with
36:55
our questions. You give your name and make sure you get all of them cuz sometimes it's hard to hear on that mic. I have a very loud voice like it though.
37:03
You're going to be like Prince with all your stuff in a vault and we don't get to see it until you're gone. Um so excited to hear you sing right in
37:10
front of me person in person. I had your stuff all on my wall and you rocked a paparazzo. I mean on your wall, you
37:17
know, whatever. Would Annie, would you ever be on Mass Singer? And if you would, what would you
37:24
sing? Jeez, honestly, I don't I guess so. If they ever invite me and uh what would I sing?
37:30
I don't know. It's a good question. I don't know. I'd probably truthfully I would go out there and pick something
37:36
like I put on some sort of accent or something. I could do accents, right? I try to I try to choose a song that nobody would like. I really disguise.
37:42
You think that until they throw you out on stage in an 8ft costume. At least you where you can't breathe. See
37:50
you can't do anything. At least he had sounds like my normal life, man. No, at least at least he had cool
37:56
costumes, dude. I just walked like I look like Paddington walto.
38:04
I'd go against her rings down in Africa. Yeah.
38:09
And one more. What is one of your favorite bands from '90s and below decade?
38:15
One of my favorite bands. All of you favorite band. Gosh, there's so many. I spent I mean, I can't even Where do I
38:21
start? Everything from Raising Machines, Audio Slave, Dave Matthews, Back to the Temptations. I mean, and everything in
38:27
between. Led Zeppelin. I mean, it just goes on and on and on and on. I love music. So, anybody
38:32
Lewis in the news goes on and on and on. Sorry. Dire straight. like Steve Wigwood,
38:39
Aerosmith, um you know, um sisters. I mean, keep going. I I love
38:46
everything from White Snake all the way to like Bruce Hornsby. Yeah. I mean, in the Range, Bruce
38:51
Hornsby in the Range. Um I mean, the music is is undeniably better. I I know for all the if there are any young
38:57
people out there, which as we get older, there are fewer young people out there. Um cuz I'm old. But it's I I I really
39:03
feel like we were able to grow up in such a sweet spot, man. The music in the 80s and '9s was I mean
39:10
everything before your podcast.
39:15
I say it all the time. And I appreciate today's music. I say it all the time.
39:21
What? I'm sorry. I'm talking. Sorry. No, no. I just said you guys just seen stuff on your podcast like decades. You
39:28
know, they do a 70s night or we do 70s 80s 90s. Some yacht rock stuff. I love yacht rock. I love it. Oh
39:34
my gosh. Mike McDonald.
39:41
Thank you so much for your question. Next question. Your name and your question. Hello, my name is Jose. I have a
39:47
question for Max. Would you ever consider doing a reboot or ending with Superhuman Samurai Squad? Oh man. You
39:55
know, I've been getting I've been getting a a lot more of that lately. I you know, I I don't know. I I did I did
40:00
keep in touch with the um the creator for a while there. Maybe I can get a hold of him. I don't know. I haven't heard anything about it though in a
40:06
while cuz I used to watch that all the time. I got a VH four episodes and I wrote that
40:11
out. Yeah, it was one of my favorite things. I Hey, I'll look into it for you for
40:16
sure. I'll see if there's any opportunity there. Thank you. Thank you so much. Of course, guys. Keep it if you can't keep
40:22
it just to the one question. I know that I do that, too. Like, I have a two-parter, but we're going to make sure to get as much you guys as you can before.
40:27
All right, guys. How are we doing today? First off, uh this for Joey. Get that out.
40:33
That's actually pretty damn good. Uh but uh so kind of feel you guys pain. Uh I had an older brother. We shared bunk beds. He was at least 14, 15, I
40:40
think. So, yeah, I get it. I understand the pain. Is what it is. But my question is, what would you guys be doing if he
40:46
hadn't grown up in the industry? like is there some other career paths that you guys probably would have done if you
40:52
were not in this business? Sure. Matt, you want to go first? We'll go down. Yeah. Yeah. And it's weird because I'm
40:58
starting to do more of it. I'm starting to figure out a way to kind of combine them now, which is cool. And that would
41:03
be conservation. I would have been working out somewhere probably, you know, in um Africa or um
41:11
uh Australia or anywhere where there's the things that I really crazy about, which would be the reptiles and amphibians. But uh I also love the big
41:18
cats. So I don't know. I I would have gone into that. Yeah. Whether it been zoology or actually just a biologist out in the field. It would have been one of
41:25
the two. That was so cool to learn about you too is that that's a big part of your Yeah. And I'm getting again because of
41:30
the podcasting and I say this but this is the coolest thing about podcasting. You get to also meet people of the kind
41:39
of that are at like the pinnacle of what they do and you get this rolodex. I now that I've been talking more and more
41:45
about animals, I'm starting to meet other podcasters who are in conservation or who are zoologologists and now I'm
41:51
starting to to kind of infiltrate that world for the first time in my life. So, it's it's it's super cool.
41:58
Yeah. Joey, what would you be doing? Um, you know, I always said that that like um like being a lawyer was
42:04
something I always wanted to do cuz I like you and Kim K. idiot. Um I uh
42:11
Kardashian. Yeah. I feel like um you know that would be kind of something that would be
42:16
exhilarating to go into a courtroom and try to prove my point to someone. You're very persuasive. I'd be like
42:22
guilty. Not guilty. Whatever you say. Yeah. And then honestly like get a word out in the courtroom.
42:28
Definitely wouldn't. Um and then I've always been drawn to politics because I feel like I've always wanted to make a
42:35
difference. Always. Like I feel like I feel like there is so much middle ground where everybody agrees on. I feel like
42:41
nobody talks about the middle area. Don't talk about the things we have in common. They do not. We have more in common than we than we than we don't.
42:48
Yes. And uh you know, like I said, I know you fund raise off of our differences, but you don't really need that. You know, I think if you can get
42:54
the message to people and you can now more than ever, I feel like, you know, we actually could um we could we could
42:59
really persuade a lot of people out there to uh to band together and then we get things done. Right. I love that. That's great. Right.
43:07
All this stuff. And Angie, what would you be doing? You know, it's changed over the years, but today I would be a archaeologist and
43:15
adventurer in pursuit in pursuit of historical and mythical artifacts.
43:22
He loves Indiana Jones. I love Indiana Jones. I could totally do that. I could do it like that. Actually,
43:29
yeah. More like indie. I think I think the whip and the the peacemaker and the
43:34
hat and the motorcycle and the little jeep like that. Just that sounds good to me. Dr. Jones. I love that.
43:40
Snakes. I I actually don't like snakes. I don't like snakes. I love it. I know they're going to
43:46
reboot Indiana Jones. So, again and again. Yeah, they're talking about it again. Um, your name and your question.
43:51
Hi, my name is Natalia. Hi. The 14-year-old of me is screaming right now. Of course. Um, also the oldest of I
43:58
have two younger sisters and they always remind me of traumatizing pranks I did on them their life but is there any
44:05
pranks that you guys have like memorable on each other that you know honest pranks
44:11
I yes I do I met your sister I was actually the
44:16
most mellow older brother ever I think I didn't play pranks did I take
44:22
no we always play the pranks on you yeah well Matt would I would Yeah, I was a lot bigger than Matt very quickly. So,
44:30
I grew very quick and Matt was very small for a change and then grew, right? So, I had a big size difference on Matt.
44:36
So, when we got into like a spat or something, I would just sit on him and then he would act like I was I was
44:42
killing him and then I actually he did it so convincing I thought I I was and then my mom and dad would get so mad.
44:48
So, he would try to hide the body and the whole thing. No. So, I would go like remember that scene in step brothers when he actually
44:54
buries him. No. So, I would do things like I'd grab Matt and he'd throw himself into the
45:00
wall and go, "No, you got me." And then and then my parents would come running and he'd set me up. So, I was
45:05
afraid that he also bit me and then he punched him in the face. Yeah. But I I
45:12
my dad said, "The biggest you have to have restraint." And I've taken that through my whole life. I I really have had a lot of restraint.
45:18
I play the pranks now. Matt doesn't have the best eyesight and with all of his animals. I I went to your face.
45:24
I keep buying like rubber lizards and rubber snakes. And as I went as far as
45:30
to buying a skeleton lizard and put it in his cage and I'm like, "Oh no, Matt."
45:35
And he'll run outside with his eyes. He tried to catch a lizard once. Like Matt,
45:40
he's right there. He's like, "What? I can kind of see it and he caught it and it was a rubber lizard." He's like, "What? This is Yeah. You know, but he
45:46
can catch lizards." Oh, it was like Matt just jumps into the bush and will come out with stuff.
45:51
