0:27
braad
0:35
very couch which is sponsored by Ashley's Home Furniture oh I love it thank you Ashley's Home Furniture yes
0:42
thank you Ashley's Home Furniture well the death not
0:49
K we censor him ignore him he's just
0:55
hello we're going to start off little round table get a little bit of a as guessing you guys were here mostly
1:01
pertaining to death not so let's talk about who you portray and the fact that there's no no spoiler warnings are on
1:08
the board you've had the chance to watch it if you're worried spoiled walk away
1:13
but don't really cuz we want to see your KES in the crowd so isn't this panel called The Notebook I was expecting
1:19
Brian Gosling to be no it was on in my hotel room last night and I got sucked in for a little bit okay death okay hi
1:26
I'm Brad Swale a voice actor from Vancouver Canada and I play light yam AKA
1:31
[Music] K hi my name is sh I am also from
1:37
Vancouver Canada and I play Nisa Amman and second
1:43
[Applause] up hello everyone my name is Brian Drummond and I play the cutest death God
1:51
there is Mr [Music]
1:57
ruk hi everyone and I want to tell you I
2:07
am now as you guys may know this is a Q&A panel so as much as I'd love to talk
2:13
their little heads off they want to hear from you guys they are here for you if you have a question if you want to know
2:19
anything about them particular one person all persons line up right to that microphone we got a wonderful little
2:24
Chopper hat volunteer who is ready to take your questions bre screen it and line you up so we don't run out of time
2:31
don't be shy come on nobody's standing up don't be shy start so many
2:38
people no questions okay panel's over all right so we're going to go eat I
2:43
will Mo off with the first question I know for a majority of anime production
2:49
voice action production it's done isolated was that the case for death death now exactly the case for death not
2:56
all dubbing pretty much that we don't get to work together together we've seen each other the most we ever see each
3:03
other on being able to come to these conventions and hang out with you guys we never all four of us rarely sit
3:09
together like this on the sofa unless we have a party and everyone comes over but Shannon usually cancels and won't come to our party so that's really no um we a
3:18
couple therapy sessions too that look like yeah we just pass each other when one comes out and one goes in so this
3:24
has been great to actually sort of um connect on on sort of the the Death Note tour look fun though yeah we actually
3:31
like each other yeah a love crazy or we're really good actors oh amazing
3:37
actors in that case we're going to open up the first [Music]
3:51
question husb who would be the better
3:56
catch depends what kind of wife you are that's
4:02
um well there'd be no shortage of dessert if L was your
4:09
husband I wouldn't want to marry light good God I mean it's pen there's episode
4:15
one and two light and then there's episode 37 light very different
4:22
personalities so yeah if you don't get too far into the series I think like could be a a good Homemaker and husband
4:29
but given how he treated Misa I don't think I would propose to Le and if he
4:36
proposed to me I think I'd run away unless going tied to gurn and
4:43
blindfold it is your thing no judgment here thank
4:51
you thank you for your question all right
4:57
[Music]
5:06
yeah there weren't any references Dragon Ball Z was before well before so it was like 1995 when I auditioned for Dragon
5:12
Ball Z and was that first voice of Vegeta on there there was this character descriptions that's what we get sent to
5:18
our agents and our agents send those character descriptions to us and it said Vegeta was this small diminutive super
5:25
powerful you know Prince arrogant and I just made a choice um in my head for
5:31
what I would do for him um for ryuk I wasn't asked to audition for ruk I actually showed up to audition for
5:36
lights dad and a couple of the detectives and when I went in the room I had seen the picture of ruk on the wall
5:41
and thought that looks like really cool character and I asked Carl the director if I could read for him and he gave me
5:47
the Sid and gave me two quick little tips because I said can I read for the bad guy demon there and he said oh
5:53
firstly he's not a demon and he's not a bad guy he's actually a death God but not the villain in this series and he
5:59
has kind of an interesting laugh and that's just for not I had like 5 minutes to come up with an idea and because he
6:06
looked so wizened and um white and pale he looked like a smoker that maybe died
6:12
in bed after 10 packs of cigarettes a day like it just had looked like the idea that that that I came up with a
6:18
kind of a coughing sound for him for his laugh and that's why it was sort of
6:24
that and then I kept the voice in that range and did my audition and I didn't get any characters I read for but I
6:31
got it was fun yeah thank you worked out well in our
6:37
[Applause]
6:43
favor Mr I please this is my perfect Victory that's right I win I don't
6:49
really need a microphone for that but I'll hold it really far away so terrify everybody
6:55
[Laughter] what do you think of that hell this is
7:02
my perfect Victory that's right I
7:08
[Applause] [Music]
7:17
[Music]
7:24
win well I I feel like Shannon sitting here
7:32
right now would probably leave it alone what am I say like or would I use
7:40
it I don't know I think knowing me I would probably
7:46
leave it alone but you know it's been a long life and uh I feel like if few names
7:53
could go in there possibly you never know what C's going to show up that
7:59
exactly really might only be one [Music] option how about you Bri oh um I know
8:09
enough about the show to walk away from the Death Note but that being said I
8:15
could not I would pick it up and then I would tuck it away somewhere very safe
8:21
cuz as much as I don't trust myself to use it there are many many other people
8:27
in this world that I would not trust it in their hand so I would put it away somewhere safe
8:32
maybe in like a secret room something like a crush out of Tom and Jerry or Scooby-Doo or something like that and
8:38
then try and forget about it but I would always know it was there and then if anybody rub me the wrong way or cut me
8:44
off in traffic or didn't use their blinker um I get the license plate and a name and go from there maybe so ultimate
8:54
ultimate road rage thank you thanks
9:01
[Applause]
9:07
[Music]
9:12
actually I found you don't get wait as long as you br ceries by using your
9:21
brain well light I told you in the very beginning that I would be the one
9:26
writing your name in The Notebook when you died
9:35
if I see you with another girl I'll kill
9:40
her there's so many good lines in the series I just I can't think of
9:47
one I I rra my brain maybe while I'm thinking I'll take a potato chip and eat
9:57
it love I that that was in your bag waiting for the
10:03
moment gotten so many free potato chips because of this show and I think that can also get away with just munching on
10:09
potato chips sitting on during a panel we we were trying to give him an apple I think it it all good yeah I got a candy
10:16
apple yesterday it was amazing i' like to ask you now I'll you
10:25
that question so more
10:37
a favorite collectible of a character that that is a good a great question I
10:44
have a family of nerds in so we have a lot of stuff Brad well we got lots of things all over us and things we
10:50
collected from fans but I might need a minute to think of all the things that all over the walls well I can feel the
10:56
time while you think Brad know hasad amazing stuff just one no forget it um
11:02
I'll narrow it down to one so Funko Pops anybody familiar with those right so the
11:07
Death Note ones got way too expensive so forget about that um but they made a bunch of Dragon Ball Z once and I played
11:13
Gohan in the original ocean Group D with Dragon Ball Z so I was oh thanks awesome
11:18
so I was not going to TW Funko pumps but my sister at some point sent me a text message with a picture of light Funko
11:27
and said is this you in that sh I said yeah that is me in that show she goes do you want me to buy this for you I said I'm not doing Funko Pops she bought it
11:33
for me anyway I'm glad she did cuz she probably paid $12 for like uncoop which
11:38
is now worth a couple hundred or whatever so I didn't want to make that same mistake with Dragon Ball Z so I got
11:44
myself a Gohan and I'm like I'm good and then they came out with another Gohan oh I got to get that one too and then they
11:50
got another one oh no and then there's say man and there's like you know the the chase version and the glow version I'm oh no but I I better get them now
11:58
while they're cheap but I also like to customize everything so I'm currently working on a Gohan
12:03
funco poop where I've taken the head off of my favorite like ultimate Gohan version and I got a a Goku body where
12:10
he's doing a Kamehameha and I got like the little lightning energy blast from a different
12:16
on Copa and I've boiled them all and pulled them all apart so it looks like a
12:21
massacre in my place right now but I'm working on like a super duper Kamehameha Gohan ultimate Gohan funa hooray now we
12:30
be your that's pretty cool I'm thinking of what stands out to me in my studio and
12:36
it was made for me by a fan they were never for sale um by anyone but it's a
12:41
beautiful I don't know every anyone ever saw crypto the super dog it was a series that was on I played streaky the Super
12:48
Cat he was a really fun character that I got to play and someone made me this like he's kind of a long Slinky cat and
12:55
they made a stuffed toy of it but it was custom done and very well done so it's
13:00
the only one in in existence that they made for me and I love it it's my streaky the super cat yeah so much of
13:07
this profession is um like childhood wish fulfillment so like I was very
13:13
lucky to be in a show called Battle Star Galactica um some of you may have seen or some of your parents may have seen
13:20
and uh I as a kid had played with Battle Star Galactica action figures and I had
13:27
a Battle Star Galactica uh board game and I watched the show as a fan so when
13:33
I was lucky to get on that show and we did a few seasons they eventually
13:38
released an action figure of my character and it was this full circle moment of like playing with myself you
13:45
know we know what you mean this is a PG panel by the way yeah who there's family
13:52
here I I mean being a part of My Little Pony
13:58
and being in in that Universe all the toys all the plushies
14:06
pinky um there are some silver spoon ones and I feel like that I didn't watch
14:13
My Little Pony growing up I was very aware of it oh one show I did do was Care
14:19
Bears and I remember they made um a little I was like a little mouse in Care
14:25
Bears and they made a little stuffy and that was pretty cute
14:31
but yeah toys all the toys all the cute toys thank you thank
14:39
you you can bend to town yeah Bend to town don't worry yeah just tilted it
14:46
there you
14:54
go okay what what did you
14:59
[Music] find what and we have to name
15:06
it Brad's a nice name yeah
15:12
[Music] yeah what did you
15:21
say that's a good name you spell that a lot of owls
15:26
o o o o b l e e o
15:32
[Music] o
15:50
oh turn in the road of life I didn't know it was a thing I was going to be a
15:56
Broadway star after I graduated from theater school but but but most Broadway
16:02
Stars I realized are triple threats and I was a single threat
16:07
so I stuck with the acting and left the uh singing and dancing to the pros um
16:14
and then kind of fell into voicing after about 5 years of doing theater and film and TV stuff and dropped into my first
16:19
series in late mid 90s I got a GI Jo series and then Vegeta was right after
16:25
that and at a certain point about 5 years of doing theater and film and voice voice just kind of took over I was
16:32
so busy on shows film and TV dropped to the side and I was this became a voice
16:37
guy and loved every been build yeah I was fortunate to start the
16:43
very first gate I ever had was a voice gig in a cartoon called Captain and the game master Captain
16:50
Nintendo when the first console came out way back 1987 I think so that was my
16:58
first ever gig and it was a voice gig so that was my in into the industry in some
17:03
ways I had a my voice had just just was starting to break with puberty and I had
17:08
the squeaky voice and it was the perfect perfect voice for the character and the rest is
17:16
history um I I always like Brian I wanted to be on the Broadway she's more
17:24
of a triple threat though like Sing Act Dance but I I
17:31
remember going to my first voice over but uh no I remember wanting to be like
17:39
a Disney princess but not really wanting not that I wasn't up for the acting but I was like I'm going to do the singing I
17:44
was like I'm that back then they were hiring you know singers for the actors
17:50
and all that stuff and I and I was like that's something I really want to do and then I I got my first show my my first
17:58
audition was um why I'm looking at AJ my first audition was for AJ my first
18:05
audition was for um a feature uh called my fair meline um based on uh do you know the
18:12
Maline books we we love but but most of all we love each other you know little
18:19
French medine a little French medine and and yeah the rest is
18:25
history um yeah I fell into it by accident I when I was a kid I wanted to be an astronaut um I know better now
18:32
because of you know the corporate race into low earth orbit there's too much space junk now so I'm terrified of space
18:40
um but I started off doing theater and then there was an agency kind of right across that was a tangent wasn't it
18:45
there was an agency right across the street that would kind of watch the kids that were coming through the theater so I was approached they said do you want
18:51
to join our agency we'll start sending you out on auditions for like TV shows and movies and commercials and stuff so
18:57
I was doing on camera work and then I got my first audition for a cartoon which was a series called my little ponytails and I got it and it woohoo I
19:06
that that was great um and then it just kind of went from there and we're you know more and more cartoons and eventually I phased out doing the on
19:12
camera stuff because I my skin wasn't thick enough for that part of the industry um but I love the voice side so
19:17
I've always um you know I have a regular full-time job like most people but I've always positioned it in a way that I can
19:23
always disappear for Studio sessions or auditions or things like that because this is something that I love to do and
19:29
feel very fortunate to be able to do it at all so there you go thank
19:39
you [Music] yeah apple that's a great question oh
19:46
that's rough because my phone is an
19:52
Android everything else in my home is an apple which is bizarre you know what I I
20:00
ended up in this I don't know the fight all the my wife and my daughters got
20:05
apples they have Apple phones and my son and I were like no we're not going to be sucked into it and we we have Androids
20:11
and have since but I think I'm on my last cycle with my Android because never texting with other people there's always
20:18
stuff's getting missed and weird things happening and um I'm going to get St to get sucked into into apple apple is my
20:26
favorite fruit I'm the only one that eats tons of them it is not my phone but it's everything else in my in my house
20:31
wait but on your family chat like is it so annoying cuz you can't like chat with
20:38
your whole family I still can chat it's a little sometimes it's messed up but it still works it's
20:44
yeah more Androids are sold in the world than Apple just so people know don't get don't get on my b it's
20:51
true than
20:57
[Music]
21:06
there's a lot of wow what is that really hurt my throat Dragon Ball Z I did a Warhammer 40,000 video game as a an orc
21:12
War Boss that killed me um brutal but yeah I I remember losing my voice and
21:18
there you won't Escape my wrath sequence of Dragon Ball Z I had nothing left and I still remember to this day cuz we went
21:24
up for dinner with my wife and family afterwards and some friends and I had to order like on a piece of paper cuz it
21:30
wasn't just sort of sore it was gone I was like it was like that and I was writing
21:37
what do you want Brian I'm scribbling it on paper and or pointing to the menu so um I really remember working on Dragon
21:44
Ball Z and it hting my voice the most from in the early days of recording Dragon Ball Z2 it didn't seem like there
21:49
was any kind of limitation for how long they would bring you into the booth so sometimes you would be there for a very
21:55
long day and just powering up power power in up powering up for episode
22:00
after episode and I do remember there was times where you know young Gohan was
22:06
you know doing some crazy power up scream or something and then because it was on TV at the time it would cut to a commercial and so You' do like a 30
22:13
second or 28 seconds of a 30 second scream before it cuts to Commercial and then it comes back to Commercial and
22:19
he's still screaming so that's okay you do have a break but you know 28 seconds into a 30 second
22:25
scream and the minute you start to kind of go down a little bit ah cut we're
22:31
going to commercial it's got to be right up there until the the the break all right let's do it again okay
22:38
okay oh no see you brought it down a little bit okay one more time one more time and there were a couple times where I remember you know practically waking
22:45
up on the floor going did I get it did I do all 30 no that was 29 and A2 okay one more time let me have some more stories
22:52
you've heard of people almost passing out doing Dragon Ball Z are very true probably any actor that had to do fights
22:58
sequences like the room just goes and you feel like you're stag your back a little bit from yelling and it
23:04
does feel like they've kind of limited the the number of hours in a row that you go in for for certain sessions for
23:10
like a dragon ball for certain video games and stuff there was another video game I worked on call Street Fighter Tekken and I
23:17
did nice I played Jim Kaz so that was a big deal for me um but I flew myself
23:24
down to Los Angeles for that one cuz that's where it was recording so I recorded the entire game in one session
23:29
and I learned a lot of little you know family remedy ancient remedy tricks one
23:36
of them was called fart juice because apparently makes you fart I got the ingredients for that the recipe for that I didn't try it out I think they were
23:42
playing a joke on you Brad maybe yeah um but yeah so there's been some some pretty heavy sessions for
23:48
sure thank
23:53
you hi Eno all guys
24:02
[Music] your
24:07
faite our favorite roles of all time I talked to a couple people this weekend
24:13
about it um and it showed some folks they said they had to take a while guess cuz the picture was on my poster and
24:19
they they had to guess cuz he was my favorite character in the comic books as a kid and those who could guess maybe
24:26
how old I am were looking at the pictures of and post have figur it out and it's I got to play Wolverine in five
24:32
movies and my favorite X-Men I love him as a to grow up and get to actually be
24:38
his voice a lot of people W's voice but to be his voice for even a short period of a number of movies was was like I
24:45
felt like I reached sort of a a pinnacle and I got to do that that's still one of my
24:50
favorites my first ever on camera job was in the MacGyver Christmas special in
24:58
1986 I played Julio the piano playing street kid at the homeless shelter I had to learn how
25:06
to play Heart the herald angel sing on the piano and I had a tap dance cuz I
25:11
was a really very talented Street kid and I had one line it was probably the lamest
25:19
episode of MacGyver ever I think there was like a b lady Angel who saved the
25:24
homeless shelter there's no action in it at all but guyver's big thing was moving
25:30
the stage uh there was like a boxing ring in the homeless shelter I don't know why um
25:37
that they had to move the boxing room across the gym to make room for the
25:43
stage and my guy were figured out if they used the barbells from the wait
25:48
room and put them under the stage they could roll the stage across the gym and
25:54
so my one line was wait for Wheels why didn't we think
26:00
of that just like the Egyptians did and
26:05
that was your favorite role ever that might have been my favorite my I might have peaked very early yeah mver find
26:13
that one on imv that's a deep dive I feel like I've got a couple but I
26:20
feel like one that really stands out when I think about having the most fun was probably when I did the Biscuit
26:25
Twins in um the littlest pet shop they were just really sassy and like really
26:34
dry and I got to do whatever I wanted in that show so I feel like that one stands
26:41
up for me I kind of agree with Brian like anytime you get to work on a property
26:47
that you're already a fan of and then you get an audition for it and you get kind of geeked out and then when you get the call saying you've been cast it's
26:53
kind of amazing um I got to play Nightcrawler at X-Men evolution
26:59
stin you I love this SM of bacon in the morning KY no um but more recently I I
27:06
played Baby Groot in Marvel battle world and I didn't know anything about Guardians of the Galaxy until that first
27:12
movie came out and oh boy did I fall in love with it so when I when I had an
27:18
audition for something that had Gro in it and I got to play Baby Groot that was a a pretty big deal for me another
27:24
custom fun pill pop that I'm working on don't don't ask good question thank you
27:30
[Music] I note The Notebook is it well if you
27:38
want to really have a nice night with your significant other Ryan exactly two Canadian leads in that
27:47
one just so you know we're all Canadian and both the leads in the notebook are Canadian you should watch death note if
27:54
you like good shows that
28:00
involve uh elements of detective cat Mouse psychological
28:07
thrillers supernal supernatural horror great music great
28:13
music great voice actors um yeah great Direction excellent
28:20
shipping I don't know what else best shipping
28:25
y you also want to be prepared for when the Death Note musical actually comes to North America yeah you got to know some
28:33
great
28:45
music what would we do if we were like our character I'd be 300 lb because I
28:51
cannot burn calories like H and if I eat that much sweets I'd be in trouble I
28:57
would do therapy light needs to a good smack
29:03
upside the back of the head he's got to treat me so better than he did yeah I probably wouldn't put up with
29:09
as much uh [ __ ] as um I did but you know
29:16
what in terms of fashion and being a pop star I keep it all the same W what would I do if I was a death
29:22
God that's an excellent you know what I probably would because I know Earth very
29:27
well all fairly well myself already right now if I was a death God I think i' zip back up there just to check it
29:33
out because some of those other death gods are very cool I'm hoping for a spin-off that has a little more of the
29:39
death God Realm involved it would be fun maybe light and L there now death God a
29:45
death God reality dating show death God reality dating show finally got your own
29:50
call
30:04
how does it feel well we've had her time with the book you go get him
30:09
kiddo thanks thank you my name is John Smith by the way spelled with a
30:18
Y hello
30:28
first animated character mine was a in a series called gii Joe
30:35
extreme I was a very um big fan at the time I'm less so now but I I was a very
30:41
big fan I grew up on a thir bed racehorse Ranch we watched a lot of westerns and um I was a big fan of
30:48
Clintwood and when I had my very first audition for for a pray series called G
30:54
Joe extreme there was a sharpshooter named ballistic and they kind of wanted a Clint Eastwood
31:01
is Vibe so I wanted to make him really kind of Clint Eastwood he was the Sharpshooter they ended up changing his
31:08
name to eoli because they thought ballistic was too violent but that was my first animated role ever with the
31:13
amazing um animation director Su blue so I fell in love with it she is um he would work with Su on Beast Machines
31:20
with us she directed Teenage Ninja Turtles she was just the Superstar of uh animation directing and I got cast I got
31:26
to work with her my first show ever as ballistic on GI Jo extrem I work with Su
31:32
on Camp candy with John C even before that yeah yeah which is a real deep cut
31:38
I don't know where you would even see that maybe it's on YouTube Somewhere I was one of the camp kids of that show
31:44
that was just after Captain N the game master in the 80s my as I mentioned before my first
31:51
role was the character Ace in my little ponytails and as far as nice as far as
31:58
ponies go he was kind of a badass Pony meaning that he was a bit of a jerk um but we had a pretty legendary voice
32:04
director on that series too a guy Nam Wally B um who I only ever heard through
32:10
my headphones which was kind of magical in itself he had kind of like a Godlike voice anyway and I'm a little kid going
32:16
oh my goodness who is this guy and my first one was um I can't well
32:23
I can't really remember the title I book I I worked on two things that at around
32:28
the same time I mean my S mateline was my I guess my first or second one but the other one was another show Ruby
32:36
something ruby slippers or something like that I don't know I don't know but I was
32:42
happy thank
32:51
you next question next question I I actually still haven't seen
32:56
it yet cuz every time I tell somebody oh I still want to watch that that's you go don't so but it just keeps falling
33:03
further down my list now I did hear that William def R did a really good job that's the one thing that that seems to
33:09
be a common is so how is it how was it William fo was really good he wasn't
33:14
that good settle down he could have been better of
33:20
course yeah we uh I watched it as well great cast like when I saw the cast well
33:25
before it came out all the actors in are excellent in so many other things I've seen them including William defo I was
33:32
thrilled that he was the guy they cast but when I did see it I was like what I really thought that they the research
33:39
from the production side and the directors um and producers it felt like
33:44
they didn't really watch the the anime or read the Manga and wanted to follow
33:49
with that much they wanted to kind of do their own thing with a bit of that story and the same character so but for people
33:56
who did not watch the the anime or read any of the manga I have run into people that only saw that on Netflix I'm like I
34:02
kind of liked it and then went to the anime and like oh the anime is better but I've only seeing it alone liked it
34:07
so it's tough without seeing it it seems strange to me that you have a property
34:13
that has that much resource material there's an entire manga there's already
34:20
pretty good Japanese live action movies that were made and they did a series of them inste of try condense everything
34:25
into one movie and there's a whole anime series and it sounds like they basically went no we're going to make our own
34:31
movie why you you could do shot for shot from the manga and be amazing but they
34:36
didn't do you probably have heard The Duffer brothers who do stranger things those producers have the rights to De
34:42
note um as a series and now producers can have 10 series lined up to do I hope
34:48
they do it sometime soon but I think the great work that they did um on Stranger Things I hope they do Tim sh is yeah
34:57
come on yeah it it could be
35:02
fabulous
35:09
[Music] all oh yeah favorites I do love horror
35:17
movies um favorite of all time I think uh my alltime favorite
35:25
still I can go back to it and creeped out con is the shiny yes I
35:32
love come and play with us daddy twins yeah I watched that in um
35:41
in fourth grade and I was at a girlfriend's house and I started I had
35:48
asthma and I started having like I needed my viline until my mom had to drive it over to me because I was so
35:54
scared I've never been so scared in my life I'm in fourth grade watching that in fourth grade no I
36:02
was also going to say the shiny or The Exorcist those are really obvious ones but I did just watch long legs on I just
36:09
watched long legs too that was pretty it was pretty was pretty great was pretty creepy yeah it age believe it or not and
36:17
it's yeah like Shannon clearly I grew up watching like really nasty horror movies
36:23
when I was way too young to be watching them so I got very desensitized by you know Nightmare on Elm Street and
36:29
Halloween and all that kind of stuff but shining is still the one that freaks me out to this day um there's just
36:35
something really creepy and Eerie about it but I was talking with my my babysitter this weekend Jay um we
36:43
somehow got into a horror rant and he reminded me of a movie that we both saw again probably too young called
36:49
Sleepaway Camp anybody familiar with sleep Bo Camp the only thing I can say
36:54
for you for Sleep Bo Camp is hey that's enough if you've seen it you know
37:00
exactly what I'm talking I repressed that memory and it came flooding back just this weekend so your question is
37:06
that's why you had a night that's why you had a nightmares last night I feel like the six cents is pretty good and like very scary for me
37:13
too thank you good question thank you hi
37:20
[Music]
37:32
question question More You Wish yeah well we've been a couple years doing so
37:38
this is probably only maybe our second or third time all four of us have been doing a panel together um always
37:44
strangling someone ask a question you've never heard before like the one you just did ironically um because you know we do a
37:51
few of these and often some of the questions are the same and we get tired of hearing each other's each other's
37:58
same answers so anything fresh is always fun um yeah I'm trying to think if
38:05
there's a kind of question no not really I think we I love doing these panels I
38:10
think it's kind of the most fun to get direct a conversation going with fans
38:15
it's why we do this um so I always look forward to them you do you know we'll
38:20
have a panel like this called you know the notebook which again kind of confused me a little bit but you know
38:26
Death Note uh but because at an event like this we can also be at a table for most of the weekends sometimes you will
38:32
get a lot of people to come up and ask kind of out of the norm questions whereas they might not want to ask it in
38:39
in a panel that's called Death Note but they'll come up to the table and ask them for me I love when people ask about
38:45
some other things that I do aside from voice acting and if we can find a hobby in common um or a sport we play or music
38:55
then I really geek out because you know this is definitely being able to talk about you know voice acting and shows we
39:01
worked on but when it's just me having a oneon-one conversation at at my table and we're talking about favorite bands
39:07
or horror movies or things like that then you can really engage just a different part of people's personalities
39:14
and see what what else they're interested in and for me that's always very interesting it's great to hear from anyone out there who wants to share as
39:20
well the reasons what uh made you want to watch Death Note not just questions
39:26
for us sometimes it's fun to hear you know why what drew me into it or what I got out of Watching Death Note or when I
39:33
first watched it it's just as fun for us to hear some of those stories from from uh from you as it is for us to tell
39:40
ours thank you [Applause]
39:58
looking at it over here like I was surprised when that happened we probably all were were like what well plug your
40:03
ears if you haven't watched it all yeah I mean I kept hoping Beyond hope that it was all a dream or it was all part of
40:09
his masteral plan he was going to come back at the end but that was definitely pulled the rug out for me it's a bit
40:17
late for spoilers for Death Note cuz the Ser Show's been up for so long so can I assume it's too late for spoilers for
40:23
Harry Potter as well I think if you haven't seen Harry Potter I agreed right I'm not going to be the bad guy when
40:30
when we lost double door like that to me was equivalent
40:35
to L well like what no it can't no no it's it's a trick what did I miss do I
40:42
have to go watch it again like there's going to be some way that he's going to come all that kind of stuff now I will say something that surprised me a little
40:48
bit and shouldn't have um was what happened to light in episode 37 and the
40:54
reason it shouldn't have been a surprise is because very early on ruk says hey it's going to be me writing your name in
41:00
my notebook and I'm like nah we're going to become friends it'll be fine and then
41:05
it happens you're like oh crap he wasn't kiding so I shouldn't have been surprised but I kind of was and I'm
41:13
still a little bit Meed yeah that's so El's the loss of
41:18
El's probably the biggest surprise I was a little surprised in every rewat it just recently how violent like can get
41:24
like when he took out the detective following him and his wife I was like what I was like come on man dude like it
41:31
was it's rough as as heartbreaking as that was and for a lot of people they stopped watching the series for a while
41:37
when that happened they're like no no they put it in the freezer um and then pull it back out like years later but
41:43
anybody that watched Game of Thrones um it was one of my favorite series to watch as it came out and I learned early
41:49
on don't get too invested any of the characters and anytime that they're willing to destroy a whole L of
41:57
character on a show it just makes the stakes that much higher and makes me more invested in it cuz I know it's not
42:03
all going to be Bubblegum and happy endings it's going to be bad so so good
42:10
so bad it's good thank you thank you [Applause]
42:40
they have same answer for this one too one two three
42:45
[Music] a that was you know I grew up like probably most of us on Tom and Jerry and
42:53
Bugs Bunny like those were the cartoons and of course you know trans GI Joe te
42:59
all that kind of stuff um but when I first saw Akira or Akira if you prefer
43:04
um was high school and that was the first time I saw animation do what it
43:11
did in that movie and my mind was blown away that like oh animation doesn't have
43:17
to be for kids or goofy or zany it can be gritty and dark and disturbing and
43:23
stuff and that really became a gateway to all Japanese for a while but oh
43:29
they're they're on to something here right and then I discovered giant robots and all this other great stuff too it's
43:34
a good question I we've uh Aira was my first one as well but I I didn't even
43:40
know what anime was I just thought it was a great animated movie I thought it was really cool so different but I think I probably knew and understood and fell
43:47
in love with more anime throughs to jibli and um I had a young family at the time so watching my neighbor Joo and
43:54
then we just got all of the we watched we've seen every single one of them and they're they're ex said I haven't seen
44:00
the last one the Aaron Ro the Aaron is the the only one I haven't seen yet I'm waiting for a time for all of us to
44:06
watch it together but that's his work is unbelievable I just loved it honestly
44:13
Death Note was like my first my also my Gateway I like didn't really know what
44:19
it was I got sent to the audition and I was like oh this looks fun and and that was kind of my first my first kind of
44:27
least of it I know it is kind of I feel like I've been a bit spoiled you know that I was
44:33
like oh yeah thank you thank you I will
44:38
say we are heading very closely towards the end of our time we
44:44
this last question let's make it quick
44:58
oh I jump on the roll Z in a heartbeat Mr milardo piece crap I love working got way very fun very cool in a heartbeat I
45:06
do another C Series now the rub to that is we're in Vancouver Canada and if one of those shows gets rebound like
45:13
rebooted or reamped or whatever um they don't necessarily automatically think to
45:18
get the original voice CS to do it so there's been Mobile Suit Gundam origin I
45:24
was not om in that although I was om in the original mob SU Gundam um they recently did some kind of a reboot of
45:30
Gundam SE Destiny um I played diara in that and when they did that nobody ever
45:38
talked to me and now I mean this is flattering this Johnny Young Bosch that's playing diara in the newer
45:43
version or whatever and little Side Story mam Roi who's the Japanese voice
45:48
actor for light um it seemed like for a time anytime an anime series came and it
45:54
was recording in Vancouver I got the r that he would have done in Japan and if it was in Los Angeles or in Texas it was
46:00
Johnny Yash so now Johnny is doing me doing M like full circle craziness but
46:09
no to answer your question absolutely I love G I mean did you see my backpack
46:15
come on ring robots yes sir thank you so much thank you thank
46:21
you so much for your question and everybody please thank your lovely beautiful panelists
46:27
everyone we'll be our tokens for a little bit longer today before we uh
46:32
pack up and take off but come say hi if you didn't get a question answered we're still open even if you're not getting autographs and stuff we're open to to
46:39
chat and answer questions at our tables for open too so thank you so much everyone thank you
46:44
