About Granny Lee
Granny Lee is a unique character set against the backdrop of Apartheid South Africa. As a white-passing trans femme, she navigates the complexities of her identity while engaging in disco dancing. Her journey takes an unexpected turn when she forms an alliance with the mother of a deceased gay boy, seeking funds to support a community grappling with the HIV/AIDS crisis.
The relationship between Granny Lee and the grieving mother is marked by contrasting motivations. While Granny Lee aims to gather resources for her community, the mother harbors a deep-seated desire for revenge against the person she believes is responsible for her son’s death. This dynamic creates a compelling narrative that explores themes of loss, identity, and the ties that bind individuals across different backgrounds.
