Synopsis: Jan Randall, portrayed by Susan Sarandon, faces her battle with inoperable cancer and refuses to allow her final days to be spent in a hospital bed. Instead, she chooses to move into a tent in her backyard. In a display of love, her husband John, played by William H. Macy, takes her on a journey around their hometown, fulfilling what becomes the trip of a lifetime. Jan is portrayed as adventurous and strong-willed, while John embodies a practical and tidy outlook on life. Marcia Cross stars as Monica Freeman, Jan’s estranged sister, who is at odds with John and desires to provide her sister with the best comforts of modern medicine.
