Synopsis: It’s 1996 in Seattle, and Kurt Cobain has been dead for two years. Eighth grade at Laurel Academy is almost over, and Ernie Calder is caught between who he’s been and who he’s about to become. He has three friends he’d do anything for and a future that finally seems to be taking shape. But the last weeks of eighth grade have other plans: a transfer student who turns his world upside down, and a loss none of them will see coming. It turns out friendship is the only thing that holds.

Friend Thing is set in Seattle during 1996, two years after Kurt Cobain’s passing. The story follows Ernie Calder as he navigates the final weeks of eighth grade at Laurel Academy. With the support of his close-knit group of friends, Ernie stands at a crossroads between his past and the future ahead. As new challenges arise, including the arrival of a transfer student and an unforeseen loss, the story poignantly illustrates the complexities of friendship. The characters must confront the reality that loyalty and connection are what ultimately guide them through uncertain times.
