Synopsis

This story begins where others end. The murderer of Giada Castucci, whose death shocked Viareggio, is about to be arrested. As the city prepares for its famous Carnival, Maria, a shy seventeen-year-old with a hearing loss, longs to be like the other girls, but what she sees at the beginning of this story changes everything. Maria, in fact, finds one of the victim’s belongings in the tool shed, and the most terrible doubt arises: could the man she trusts most, her father, be involved? Her father’s increasingly nervous behavior only heightens the suspicion. In this atypical whodunit, Maria confronts secrets, silences, and suspicions, while even her mother (Pandolfi), a respected police commissioner, falters. In the days leading up to Carnival, amidst masks and hidden truths, Maria will realize that everyone wears one. Even her.
