Synopsis: Follows a flamboyant and fiercely intelligent young woman as she struggles in the throes of mental illness. Sylvia Frumkin was born in 1948 and began showing signs of schizophrenia in her teens. She spent the next seventeen years in and out of mental institutions. In 1978, reporter Susan Sheehan took an interest in her and, for more than two years, became immersed in her life: Talking with her, listening to her monologues, sitting in on consultations with doctors – even, for a period, sleeping in the bed next to her in a psychiatric center.

Synopsis: “Is There No Place On Earth For Me?” – A Powerful Exploration of Mental Health Struggles

Coming from MediaPro Studios, helmed by Laura Fernández Espeso and Juan “JC” Acosta, and directed by the inimitable John Turturro, “Is There No Place On Earth For Me?” is one of the most anticipated projects currently in development. The tale centres on the life of Sylvia Frumkin, a stunningly brilliant and charismatic lady, who had to grapple with the effects of schizophrenia starting from her teenage years.

Born in 1948, Sylvia’s existence came to be defined by relentless cycles of mental hospital admissions. Her journey takes us on a roller-coaster of emotion, bringing the reality of mental health issues into sharp focus. Susan Sheehan, a discerning reporter approached Sylvia in 1978 and chose to not just interact, but to imbue herself in the turbulent universe that was Sylvia’s life. She spent hours having conversations with her, experiencing her monologues and even attended doctors’ meetings with her.

For two years, Susan went as far as sleeping next to Sylvia in a psychiatric centre, all in a bid to truly understand and chronicle her experience. “Is There No Place On Earth For Me?” pays tribute to these two remarkable women. Their uncommon story beckons viewers into a thought-provoking exploration of the human psyche and the general misinterpretation of mental illness.
