Synopsis
Set against the chilling backdrop of Moscow in 1977, “Ponies” presents a gripping narrative revolving around two seemingly ordinary secretaries at the American Embassy. Bea, portrayed by the talented Emilia Clarke, is a cerebral daughter of Soviet immigrants, well-versed in the nuances of the Russian language. In stark contrast, her partner Twila, played by Haley Lu Richardson, is a bold, small-town woman whose fiery spirit matches the tension of their environment.
Everything takes a dramatic turn when their husbands are killed under suspicious circumstances, thrusting them into a perilous web of espionage. As “PONIES” — or “persons of no interest” in the intelligence community — they find themselves at the epicenter of a Cold War conspiracy that threatens to upend their lives.
With their newfound determination and skill, Bea and Twila transform from unnoticed clerks to fierce CIA operatives, unraveling a mystery that holds the key to their husbands’ deaths and a larger threat looming over the world stage. This thrilling narrative promises to weave together elements of loyalty, betrayal, and the search for justice, making it a must-watch come February 2025.
