Striking Tale of Familial Bonds and Legacy – ‘And Sons’
In the bustling city landscape of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the rather insignificant funeral of Charles Henry Topping turns into an extraordinary event with the unexpected presence of the famously elusive author, A. N. Dyer. His seminal work, Ampersand, continues to echo in the tomes of American teenage angst.
During the eulogy for his oldest comrade, Dyer confronts his past, fraught with trials, regrets, and the indelible mark of his well-loved novel. With time slipping through his fingers, he sees it paramount to call his three sons for a long-overdue reunion. What unfolds is an emotional and transformative week brimming with self-discovery, regret, and acceptance.
The Dyer lineage comprises Richard, a struggling screenwriter who had distanced himself from the family, Jamie, a man rooted in Brooklyn dedicating his life to documenting human misery, and the youngest, Andy, whose mysterious arrival seventeen years ago disintegrated the Dyer family. Andy plans to experience his first intimate relationship ahead of his return to the prestigious New England boarding school that fuelled Ampersand.
As the real objective behind this gathering unfurls, the sons comprehend the enormity of their roles, not just in their father’s life, but their imprint on the generational narrative.
