Synopsis: Set in Nebraska in 1879, the film will depict the true historical events surrounding Ponca Chief Standing Bear and his quest for justice, which sets the precedents for many civil rights cases to come in the U.S. I Am A Man tells the story of Chief Standing Bear, who escapes the reservation to honor his dead son’s last wish to be buried in the Ponca’s ancestral land, but he is captured. Chief Standing Bear soon learns the fight for freedom means challenging an Army general, Brigadier General George Crook, and the U.S. government in a court of law – and by taking the stand on his own behalf, he will unknowingly change the fate of all Native Americans forever.
