Synopsis: 1980, Pass Christian, Mississippi: It is three in the morning when Bobby Western zips the jacket of his wet suit and plunges from the Coast Guard tender into darkness. His dive light illuminates the sunken jet, nine bodies still buckled in their seats, hair floating, eyes devoid of speculation. Missing from the crash site are the pilot’s flight bag, the plane’s black box, and the tenth passenger. But how? A collateral witness to machinations that can only bring him harm, Western is shadowed in body and spirit—by men with badges; by the ghost of his father, inventor of the bomb that melted glass and flesh in Hiroshima; and by his sister, the love and ruin of his soul.
Synopsis
In the early hours of a fateful morning in 1980, Bobby Western finds himself submerged in the depths of the Gulf of Mexico, a diver with more questions than answers. As he zips up his wetsuit, he prepares to descend into darkness, his dive light cutting through the murk to reveal a haunting sight—a sunken jet cradling nine souls, all peacefully entwined in their seats, their lifeless eyes staring into an abyss of uncertainty.
But something is amiss. The wreckage tells a tale marked by absence; the pilot’s flight bag, the black box, and a mysterious tenth passenger are nowhere to be found. Bobby, caught in this web of tragedy, soon discovers he is not just a witness but a pawn in a game played by those who wear badges, shadowed by his own family’s tumultuous legacy. Haunted by the ghost of his father, the creator of destruction that forever altered the world, and tormented by his sister, who embodies both love and loss, Bobby navigates a world rife with peril.
In this gripping narrative from acclaimed writer and director Jeff Nichols, “The Passenger” unveils a complex emotional landscape where the past collides with the present, and the search for truth reveals dark secrets that could cost Bobby everything. As the tension mounts from January 13 to February 28, 2025, audiences will be immersed in a story that intertwines personal demons with harrowing mysteries, leaving them breathless and contemplative long after the credits roll.
