Chronicling the times of a group of Freshmen at an historically Black college, the “A Different World Spinoff” introduces audiences to the sequel centered on the daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, now a freshman at Hillman College. This untitled HBCU project delves into the experiences of a new generation navigating the challenges and triumphs of college life.
Produced by industry veterans Tom Werner, Mandy Summers, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Rock Bythewood, with Felicia Pride leading the writing and production team, and directed by the talented Debbie Allen, the spinoff features a promising cast including Chibuikem Uche, Maleah Joi Moon, Cornell Young, Jordan Aaron Hall, Alijah Kai Higgins, and Kennedi McClure. With Kim Coleman overseeing casting, this pilot promises to deliver a fresh perspective on the legacy of “A Different World” while exploring themes of identity, friendship, and growth within a historically rich setting.
