The family moves far out to the suburbs, into an “All White” neighborhood to a home that’s “technically” out of their price range. And alongside neighbors that “technically” might be racist. Synopsis

From the creative minds of New Taki Entertainment and New Breed Entertainment, comes an intriguing new production, “Mabaya”. Conceived under the ingenious direction of Corey Grant, “Mabaya” presents us with the gripping story of the Gerald’s, an African American family seeking peaceful existence in the midst of societal turmoil.

The narrative follows the Gerald family, who find themselves uprooting from their dangerously turbulent inner-city neighborhood thanks to a hefty insurance payout. In search of safety and prosperity, they relocate far out to the suburbs. But, in their quest for serenity, they are plunged into an entirely unfamiliar world: an “All White” neighborhood that’s “technically” financially above their means, surrounded by neighbors that may or may not be prejudiced.

Produced by Chris Debbiec and written by the talented duo of Corey Grant and Lanett Tachel, “Mabaya” grapples with the distressing reflection of the societal divide and bigotry woven into a deeply touching family narrative. This production aims to provoke thought and stimulate dialogues on our understanding and interaction with the often-avoided topics of race, socio-economic differences, and culture.

In this impending production, set to commence on February 10 in Los Angeles, every scene promises to deliver tense undercurrents. Comes the question: is replacing drive-by shootings and urban hardships with possible bigoted neighbors indeed a superior alternative? The Gerald’s have made their choice, but will it truly lead to the safer, more fulfilling existence they yearn for? One must watch the unfolding narrative of “Mabaya” to find out.
