Interview with Shannon McRandle
1. Can you share some of your most memorable experiences interacting with Star Wars fans over the years? How has the Star Wars community impacted your life?
The Star Wars community has become like a family to me over the years; they have been with me through thick and thin. The funniest thing to ever happen to me was a fan that asked me if I was able to levitate a table with my powers!
2. Mara Jade is a character beloved by many Star Wars enthusiasts. What aspects of Mara’s character and storyline do you find most compelling, and how did you approach portraying her in various promotional events and materials?
When I was cast as Mara Jade, I read all available material on her and came to believe I knew her very well as a character. What I love about Mara is that she’s able to find herself and her true strength through trial and tribulation.
3. You’ve graced magazine covers and trading cards as Mara Jade. What’s the most interesting product that you’ve seen your image on?
I love this one! When in Tokyo at a toy festival, a fan created a 3-foot-tall porcelain figure of Mara Jade with real red human hair.
4. Beyond your involvement in Star Wars, you’ve had a diverse career. Can you tell us about some of your other interests and projects outside of the Star Wars universe, and how they have influenced your journey as an actress and model?
Right now, most of my free time is spent caring for my dogs, spending time with my family, and enjoying the beach life in Virginia Beach. Overall, my personal interests and hobbies kept a backseat to my career in Star Wars. My experience at UNLV and my early work in show business with large venues in Vegas had a much greater influence on my future work with Star Wars.
