Synopsis: About a pilot living in a world filled with loss – and what he is willing to risk to rediscover, against all odds, connection, love, and grace. Hig (Mescal) survived the flu that killed everyone he knows. His wife is gone, his friends are dead, he lives in the hangar of a small abandoned airport with his dog, his only neighbor a gun-toting misanthrope. But when a random transmission somehow beams through his radio, the voice gives him a hope deep inside him that a better life – something like his old life – exists beyond the airport. Risking everything, he flies past his point of no return – not enough fuel to get him home – following the trail of the static-broken voice on the radio. But what he encounters and what he must face – in the people he meets, and in himself – is both better and worse than anything he could have hoped for.

Synopsis: The Dog Stars

Produced by Scott Free Productions and scheduled for release in spring 2025, “The Dog Stars” is one to mark on your cinema calendar. This riveting film from director Ridley Scott features Paul Mescal as the lead character, Hig.

Taking us into a world ravaged by loss, “The Dog Stars” tells the gripping tale of Hig, a pilot who has survived a catastrophic flu pandemic that wiped out everyone he knows. Now, with his wife and friends gone, Hig is left to exist in solitude, stationed at an abandoned airport. His only company, a loyal canine and a gruff neighbor with a fondness for firearms. The story takes us with Hig as he takes flight in his 1956 Cessna, scanning the desolate earth below searching for reminders of a once prosperous life.

However, Hig’s stagnant existence takes a turn when a faint transmission bleeds through his radio. The distant voice rouses an optimism within Hig he thought was lost forever. Believing that maybe, just maybe, a life echoing his old one could lie just past the airport’s fence, Hig makes the ultimate gamble. With just enough fuel to set out, but not make it home, he follows the radio signal’s convoluted trail.

Yet, what awaits Hig along his journey and within himself strays far from what he was declaiming. The boundaries of hope and despair are blurred, and Hig is set on a path of self-discovery and acceptance that is far more profound than anything he could have anticipated.

“The Dog Stars”, effortlessly blends intense drama, suspense, and introspection to create a cinematic adventure that is both heart-wrenching and heart-warming. Make sure to carve out some time in your spring 2025 calendar for this much-anticipated film. It promises to leave audiences in profound contemplation, the mark of a true cinematic masterpiece.
