Mackenyu Maeda, professionally known as Mackenyu, was born on November 16, 1996, in Los Angeles, California, U.S. He is the son of Japanese action movie star Sonny Chiba and Tamami Chiba. Mackenyu has two siblings: a half-sister named Juri Manase (from his father’s previous marriage) and a brother named Gordon Maeda. He attended Beverly Hills High School and participated in their Advanced Placement Program.
From a young age, Mackenyu showed a diverse range of interests. He learned horseback riding and Yabusame at the age of 7 and practiced Kyokushin Karate since he was eight years old. In high school, he was involved in gymnastics, water polo, and wrestling.
