TFTC: Throughout your career, you’ve taken on multiple roles in the gaming industry, from acting to directing and writing. How do these different roles influence each other, and which do you find the most fulfilling?

Kucan: All I’ve ever wanted to do is tell stories. Each of the roles you describe adds a brick to the story’s foundation. In that sense, they each have their certain appeal and create their own satisfaction.

TFTC: Your portrayal of Kane in the Command & Conquer series has become iconic in the gaming world. What was your approach to bringing such a complex character to life, and how did you prepare for this role?

Kucan: Kane is a cliche. But I think he realizes that he is a cliche and therefore can operate from a place of humor. I’ve always thought that humor was an important aspect of an engaging villain.

TFTC: The 1997 “Blade Runner” video game is a cult classic, and your involvement was significant. How did you approach working on a game based on such a well-established and beloved film, and what challenges did you face in adapting it for a gaming audience?

Kucan: Such a long time ago now… It was important to understand the established work and to express our own story from within that world. Most of the credit for the success of that game goes to David Leary (one of the games’ designers and writers).

TFTC: With the evolution of gaming technology and storytelling, how do you see the role of actors and directors in video games changing, and what future developments are you most excited about in the industry?

Kucan: It’s exciting to see the genre finally being embraced as a legitimate art form—not just by audiences, but by artists as well. I’m no visionary, but I can imagine a continued blurring of the line between story-teller and participant. It’s been exciting to watch.
