164 nurses have died from COVID-19 – 3AUG2020
In an extremely concerning new study, over 87% of nurses throughout the United States have reported being forced to reuse personal protective equipment while treating COVID-19 patients. That’s unconscionable.
Reader, the federal government has had five months to ensure adequate protection for our nurses, doctors, and frontline health workers. But they failed.
In an extremely concerning new study, over 87% of nurses throughout the United States have reported being forced to reuse personal protective equipment while treating COVID-19 patients. That’s unconscionable.
We have the power to change that. We’re joining with National Nurses United and a coalition of progressive organizations in demanding two critical things:
- First, the Senate should exercise its authority under the Defense Production Act to ensure sufficient PPE for every doctor, nurse, and health worker that needs it.
- Second, we should pass a temporary emergency OSHA standard to establish a transparent, efficient system to protect frontline workers.
Right now, both of these measures are stalled in the Senate. We need a powerful grassroots outcry to put pressure on Senate Republicans to act. Will you step up today?

For months, our nurses and doctors have been putting their lives on the line to save as many people as possible. Without their incredible drive and sacrifice, thousands of people would have died.
They had our backs. We need to have theirs. These frontline fighters shouldn’t have to risk their personal health, their families health, and the health of their community just to do their jobs. Additionally, the federal government’s failure disproportionately harms low income workers and people of color, who will have a tougher time isolating themselves from family members if exposed.
In the upcoming weeks, National Nurses United will be dropping off these petitions in Congress. Signing your name right now directly increases their political power when that happens. Will you step up to fight for nurses right now?
Thanks for your support,
Team AOC
